Guy wants $750 for the 460, $900 for the 660. These prices sound decent, or can you buy them at a dealer for this kind of coin. I'm thinking of offerering him a package price of around $1400, see if he jumps. Any thoughts?

In the last month or so I've been kicking around a new MS660, local dealer will sell me a new 660 for that kind of money, a slight difference in price depending on bar and chain combo. Not enough dirrerence to buy one from a private party and no warrenty or dealer support.

I have a locally avaialble MS660 that is "ungassed" and new with no B&C for $750 for comparison.

I just talked to the guy, he bought out a dealers inventory, has:

(2) MS460
(1) MS660
(3)MS260 PRO
(1) MS361
(1) Husqvarna 357XP used
(1) 066 used

He isn't budging on the prices and stated none of these would have any warranty. I think I'll pass.

Saw prices are good in "Weegieland," apparently. That is a great price!

In this area 660 for $998 + Tax w/28" bar.

No warranty on his saws, I'd pass it on by. I'd also ask for the serial numbers see what he says :)

If a dealer goes under, Stihl is required to buy back all new parts and equipment inventory. I wouldn't touch his smokin' hot goods.

Same here. How can they not have a warranty? If they're not hot the warranty will still apply, no?

Get some serial numbers off the saws he's offering, if they haven't been burned off, and get them checked. Might be interesting.

You need a Stihl dealer number to register the saws for warranty. No dealer number no warranty.

NIB and unstarted

Assuming the guy was legit, wouldn't the warranty(s) been in his name, and starting the moment of the sale? The bigger saws are 90 days for everyone, the 390 and down is a year -or 90 days for a pro user.

As for the ungassed, NIB specimens... how old is too old? Stihl fires each one up at the factories before going in zee box, yah? So they all got at least one "wake-up" shot.

I guess if one could store one in a chamber with inert gas it could last forever... (Instead of a lame old fish tank, have The Saw Tank! )

In the real world, how long will seals and the other rubber bits of a brand new piece of eq last if stored away in a climate controlled room? Or a non-CC shed/shop? Cased and out of sunlight either way.

I assume one should crank it over from time to time, but should one add & gyrate a few cc of raw UltraHP (or other goo?) once or once & awhile? I know that wouldn't be "NIB" anymore, but if it meant a runner in a dozen years, that's the ticket.
