I went by my local Husqvarna dealer on my way home from work and he had 2 346xp's on the wall. One was an etech model with the green fuel cap and the other was older than that with the grey gas cap. I told the owner that these 2 saws he had were not the newest from Husqvarna in that model and he said he won't buy any more 346xp's till those are sold. He said the one with the grey gas cap is an early 2005 one. He wouldn't cut any deal on them either. Price was 475 for either saw with a solid (not spot welded) bar and chain. Is there a big enough difference betreew the 05' vs 09' model other than the primer bulb and silver side cover? Do I buy the pre-etech model or shop elsewhere? problem is the Husky dealers around here don't stock s#!t for chainsaws because they don't sell many, they are all basically lawn mower or tractor stores that have a small display of saws and they don't know much about them. Sucks that Husky can't be sold over the internet, I understand the whole dealer/service thing but the dealers around here don't know anything about what they are selling and they don't even offer the latest. What should I do????????????

If these are the older 45cc saws, then pass. A NE 346xp, 50cc, retails for less than $500 with a 16" b&c. A nice dealer may even cut you a little deal and pay your sales tax or something.

for the same $$ you want the newer one, although you'd prefer it with a non-cat muffler. see if he'll switch the muffler for you (have cash in hand).

and if it has a silver clutch cover it should be a NE.

The only 2 he has are not the new one, I asked him about ordering a new one and said "not till those 2 are gone".

I would buy an older one for the right money, say $350 or so. I bought my NE one without crappy bar and chain for $420, and the dealer set it up for 3/8, fueled and oiled it, and threw in a gallon of B&C oil and six bottles of XP oil. Your dealer sucks and he should know that. Look elsewhere if he wont cut you a deal.

I'd look for a new dealer...I bought 2 of the old edition one being the G model heated handles for 300.00 per, granted this was 3 yrs ago.

For $470 all they have here are the new edition models. Pass on the older ones. That dealer should get a clue and off them for his cost. O/w they are going to sit there forever. Especially in this market.

Bad decision for Husky to name the 372 and the 346 different displacement engines with the same model number. Must be a sewing machine thing.

Whew, and here I was worrying that this wasn't gonna turn into another Stihl/Husky bashfest thread. I can sleep easy now. By the way, Husqvarna is stihl superior to all other saws. If you don't believe me just watch a couple episodes of Ax Men, becomes obvious. ;)

Thanks guys........You all are saying pretty much what I felt in my gut when I left his shop. The problem I run into down here (Pensacola, Fl area) is that there aren't any "chainsaw" shops around. They are all shops that sell a multitude of products and just so happen to also carry Stihl or Husqvarna saws. That pretty much puts this thread to rest. Man.......I wanted one of those saws too. I'll call some of the other dealers and see what they have in stock.

So you are worried about this turning into (or not turning into) a saw bashing thread, and then you go and bash Stihls? AxMen is for the retarded. I have never seen that many screwups on any slick cuts that I saw for the 4 years that I lived out there in the coastal mountains of Oregon.

STIHL RULES!

Expecially the MS361xp model. :jester:

More seriously, the old version 346xp also is a great saw, the new one just is even greater - of course no-one should ask full price for an old one by now.....

...especially since I suspect it exceeds the full price when the OE 346XP was the current model. It didn't sell in 2005, 2006, or 2007 before it became outdated, so let's mark the price up to the price of the model that replaced it and see if it sells now. Maybe some sucker will think he found a 346xp without the ugly silver cover and grab it, not knowing it's also missing 1/2 hp.
