....buddy brought it over, says he pulled the spark arrestor and baffling out of the muffler and now it loses power in a cut. He fired it up and was revving it at WOT and it was just screamin. I can tell right away it's running too lean on the high end. I told him to shut 'er down before he fried it. Is that saw supposed to scream away at 15K RPMs? I'm gonna richen it up for him and cut a lil with it, it's pretty scary now but when I am done with it it'll be an absolute weapon.

This appears to be an older 200T. Do all of them not have limiter caps on the carb. screws? It seems like there's none on this one, which is a good thing.

I've seen guys run'em that high before but usually not for long. ;)

Spec says 14,000 without the screen it could go a bit more.

There have been more than a few different carbs used on that saw over the years... be glad you didn't get the one without the high side needle.

Yeah 14 grand seems plenty fast enough, that thing just plain screams! Looks like I got all 3 needles to do a full adjustment. It also has the factory adjustments embossed on the plastic case cover, 1 turn on the Low and 3/4 on the High, which are somewhat irrelevant with a modded muffler. I'll just tune it by ear for a nice 4 stroking sound.

14000 rpm for an MS200T.

Check the impulse line, fuel line and boot for cracks as well if you're still worried as it's cheaper than a new P&C kit.

Will do. I will see how close to normal adjustment it is before I start messing with it too much.

Check the AV mounts. I've said it here dozens of times, but I see it daily. Those saws get yanked, twisted, and dropped all day. AV's fail, climber keeps using it and rips the boot or Impluse hose...P n C soon to follow.

:agree2:

and the aluminum muffler has been know to crack while being "gently placed" in the truck/on the ground/stump... etc.

15k isn't unsual or bad... With a muffer mod (i.e. screen removed) and no carb adjust, that's what will happen. Lever the limiter cap up with a screw driver until it just clears the stop and adjust a bit richer. Make sure you have an airfilter in when adjusting - that can be another 1k...
