Craigslist score! Got me a sweet Solo 633 tophandle saw WITH modded muffler for $100!

SOLO2.jpg

Note muffler mod (circled) of copper pipe brazed over muffler outlet. The kill switch doesn't work, but I bet I can fix that, choking it to kill it makes it tricky to start cold. It also has an accelerating idle, if it is idling while I am using it it keeps speeding up. I think whoever modded the muffler didn't re-tune the carb properly, I sure hope it isn't crank seals.

Either way, a sweet saw for $100!

AOD...was going to tell you about that one when I seen it on CL...next thing I know it was gone. Good find...almost compares to the 2 - 637 Solo tophandles I got for 60 bucks...yeppers 60 for the pair.

Geeze, way to make me feel bad!

I was actually shocked I was able to get it, I thought for sure somebody would snatch that up almost instantly.

Anyone know who sells parts for these? I am thinking it might need a carb kit, the dude said it had some bad gas in it not long ago.

You can order any part you need directly from Solo...go to the solo site and they have contact info for parts. They were extremely helpful and all I needed was a oil cap.
Hey I didn't mean to make ya feel bad...I did need to get bar/chain for both.

Thats good I can get parts directly from them, the nearest dealer is outside of Lansing.

Two of them for $60 is awesome, even without bars. Any pro saw with a muffler mod for $100 is a good deal

I like the looks of that muff mod...thinkin I need to learn how to braze copper.

Yeah it's pretty unique. He even put a chunk of screen in there to stop sparks.

I am wondering what he brazed it with and how high of a temps it can take. I know SilFlos (15% silver) brazing rod melts at over 800° but is only used to braze copper to copper, not copper to steel. I doubt it was silver soldered, and silver solder can't take that kind of heat, maybe some sort of specialized coated brazing rod.

It's a cool saw. I really like the power at high RPM's, like a wood lazer. I was messing around cutting up some dead pine in the woods, it was almost scary fast. Still gotta fix the funny idling problem and richen the high side up a tad.

I was gonna take her out and tweak a little bit, as well as mess with the 200T that someone gave me to tune up, but now it's cold and rainy, bah!

AOD be curious as to what ya think of it compared to the 200T...never had the chance to run one. CC's on yours is 33? The one's I have are 37cc and I thought the same thing (much b/c of hand position required w/ T-handle), scary fast.
I'm sure that muff mod brings yours up to where these 37cc solo's are runnin.

Mine claims to be a 36cc, a bit unusual. I bet with the mod it has the po9wer of the 637 and then some. I wanted to fix the kill switch but had a heck of a time getting the handle apart without breaking anything, and it is still doing the funny idle thing where it keeps accelerating at an idle.

I've never ran the Solo but if it's anything like the 200 than it's one bad dude.
Congrats, CAD has you, your line up is growing nicely.

I've run the 192, 200 and 335XPT, and the power of this thing falls between the 335 and the 200. Granted it runs a lot better than a 335. I have;t gone head to head cuttin cookies with a 200 though. It lacks the 200's revs at WOT but those revs drop off alot in the wood. My buddy has a 360t and I've challenged him to a race and I am confident I will smoke him.

I still would like a 192 someday, the feel and balance of that saw is incredible, even if it lacks the power of other top handles.
