Hi everyone I'm new here , what a great site! I looking for a 3RD saw i have a Husky 272 and just picked up a Stihl 180 . What I'm looking for is a saw to fit in the middle of the 272 and the 180 .. I'm going to be cutting 30 cord per year .

i went today to take a look at the 346 my local Huskavarna dealer is not selling Husky's any more he blamed it on the cheep Huskys ruining his business , so it appears that my only local chain saw dealer is just Stihl , so i may be looking at a ms 260 or maybe the ms 250

ms 180 is good saw I have one also and also have stihl 290 farm boss fantastic saw very tough does the cutting for you. 13 lbs without bar and chain I have 20 inch bar on mine so 16-17 lbs total now.

260 is good also.

I would stay away from 250 basically same as 180 but a little bigger.

so my sugestions are 260/290 stihl and dolmar 5100. jonsered is good too.

Nighttrain,

The little 250 is a great saw. Light, handy, and puts up with heavy use.
I love mine, and am thinking about it's replacement for when it goes. Rebuilding it would be silly. It would cost about the same to just buy another.

The 260 makes better power for similar weight, is better and more robustly built to take the heavy use my 250 has somehow managed to tolerate thus far.

The difference of 200 bucks, over several extra years of limbing out 30 cords actually favors the 260.

Too bad the 346 is out of the running for you.
The MS361 cures Cancer, but the 346XP can raise the dead, cure Zombies, and make Werewolves piddle themselves.
It does a good job limbing too.:D

I'm still stuck between the 346 and the 260, and the dealers will have to work for the sale...unless I can find another used 250 CHEAP.

Stay safe!

I'd find a new dealer then, if that's his attitude then. He has no Idea.

I work in the woods and I'd take a Stihl any day over Husky- less parts replacement. That said, my old man has a Husky 350 and it's a ripping little saw for 300$. Stihl or Husky, I guess I'd go with the best price for what you need- as long as you have a good dealer to maintain it who also has good parts availability. Service and parts availability are key. Hope that helps.

Make sure to take a serious look at the ms270/280 series. You'll get more power, spring AV and a little extra coin in your pocket over the 260.

I have the 180/270 combo pair of saws and I have no complaints (just CAD!).

As others said, the natural choise is the NE346xp, alternatively Dolmar 5100S.

If it has to be a Stihl, the options to consider (imo) is the 260 and the 280, both have some plus and some minus compared to each other.

While they are both clamshell engines, the construction is quite different.

The little 250 is a great saw.
Just hope you never have to work on it. They are a pain in the but.

Go check out the new Dolmar 420. It's a MUCH better built saw than either of the above Stihls.
