Any recommendations on a gasket maker sealant that will resist the raw mix in a feul tank? The two cork seals from the donors were poor and yamabond and motoseal are not sealing off the raw fuel.

I know I could order another seal, I just am not inclined to do such.

Thanks.

Try (Seal All).
I have used on a truck gas tank It works.
Available at any hardware store for about $3.00

Yep seal all will probably work, but it's actually a glue and I would think you may never get the tank top off again if you use that.

I have used the Permatex Anorobic (spelling?) on top of the old gaskets with some success.

I have had good luck with permatex myself. What I do is clean the groove in the top of the tank well. Then I fill the groove level with permatex and let it dry for 24 hours. Once dry, you have a permanent rubber gasket. I have done several like that and have had no leaks.

I have a 10-10 that needs sealed myself. Permatex is a brand name that markets a whole line of sealants. Which one did you use?

I think this is the kind. I let it dry completely in the groove of the tank top before reassembly. Make sure you remove the old cork gasket and clean the groove out good before filling it with the permatex.

Great input fellas. The "let it dry" prior to mounting the cover strategy will make a difference in how I was looking at using black sealant.

Thanks.

Yeah it is not as messy and it lets you remove and replace the top without having to redo the sealant.

another thing to think about

if you have it apart think about repainting the inside of the fuel tank:cheers:

My 10-10's tank is leaking into the carb chamber around the fuel line hole. The fuel line is in great shape but won't quite seal the hole and I was thinking about putting Seal-All on the wide part of the line before pulling it through the hole and seating it. Guess I'll give that a go then.

I was having the same fuel leaking problem with my 10-10 after I installed a new molded fuel line. I saw where "Modified Mark" said he wrapped the fat part of the molded line with teflon taped and then seated that in the hole. I gave that a try and that seems to work fine. I just kept on adding more wraps and seating it until it was a tight fit.

If you do try the Seal-All report back as to how it works.
