I have read LOTS and LOTS where we compare the Stihl HP vs the Husky HP, etc. However, when it comes to productivity and my definition of a "good saw", I also want a saw that will start easy.

For example, my Husky 51, after being unused for 3-4 months, will crank on the 2nd or 3rd pull. Once it has been cranked for the day, it will start again on the first pull EVERY TIME. How do the Stihl's compare? Specifically, when comparing professional series saws like the Stihl 361 vs the Husky 372xp, does one, as a general rule, consistently crank easier than the other???

Bought a new stihl once, would always start 1 or 2 pulls untill it was about 15 years old & well used, then might take 8 or 10 pulls - untill the day I took it to the consignment auction started on 1 pull got almost what I paid for it new. Bought a new Husky was very disappointed that took 8 or 10 pulls to get started, wanted to leave it in the woods & find my old stihl. Did some light mods & tuning, the husky can sit for a long time & if I can get to the choke fast enough most likely will start on 1 pull.
All depends on the saw, how good you know the saw & how it tuned.

One reason I bought my Husky when I was shopping for a saw was the fact that my dads 025, new 260 Pro, and new 361, were kinda a pain to start. My Echo and Husky are without a doubt easier to start from cold. Your saws may vary. REJ2.

I have heared the the craftsman saws start the easiest, and has more power than any other saw out there.

Husky.

My Stihl sits waaaaay too long between uses.;)

What?

It's the truth!

Stay safe!

Can't speak specifically to the saws, but both Husky's start easy regardless of how long they have sat. I have 3 pieces of Stihl power equipment, none are saws, and they all are far more involved to start and very cold natured. I suspect Stihl sets the carbs a tad rich when new to promote longevity through increased lubrication. ????????

My dads husky 365 starts on the first pull even if it sits for 3-4 months all my 372's and 365 are 4-5 pull if they sit that long... Even in the same series some are better than others and really who cares if you pull it a few extra times as long as it starts and runs good.

In my experience the Husky's start easier but at the same time the Stihls I've seen have been worked harder by guys that abuse them and never get them serviced.
You get good and bad saws in every bunch...
My 3120 is the easiest saw I own to start. Runs and starts like a Swiss Watch and despite it's size it's also the easiest to pull - as long as you remember the decomp!

Based solely on what I have read on this site, and based no part in real life,

The Stihl MS 361 must be the fastest starting saw, come on, after all if it can cure cancer, it must sense when you want to use it, and then start on it's own for you.

On a more serious note, I think both Stihl and Husky are capable of fast starts. What really will figure in more the brand is the maintenance such saw has received, and the ability of the user in said starting and maintenance.

My Husky 365 is the worst starter I've owned and for the life of me I don't know why. Every other Husky I've owned has been an easy starter. My Stihl 028 is a good starter and so is my 011 "toy" saw. Nothing equals my Sachs-Dolmar 116si for ease of starting.
