Need help with Stihl MS290 oiler

I have and almost new Stihl MS290 (about 8 months old). The chain oiler oils the chain as it should, and it seems that I have it set right, as upon an empty gas tank, there is usually about 1/4 tank of oil left. The problem is that not only does it oil the chain, it oils the clutch and the inside of the engine housing too. I pulled the clutch, cleaned everything up really good, put it back together and ran it at half throttle for a minute or so. Opened it back up, and everything was oil soaked again. It even drips from the hole in the bottom where the oiler adjuster screw is, and it drips from the engine pan mounting bolt holes. There's so much oil that I cant tell where it's leaking from. It doesnt leak at all if it's not run, so I'm sure its not the tank. I would be greatful for any suggestions, and hopefully I can resolve this without returning the saw for warranty repairs

You need to read your owners manual, and then turn down the oil pump.

Already tried that. I can turn it all the way to the stop on the low end to where it hardly puts out any oil at all, but everything behind the clutch still gets covered with oil, and it still drips. I never had this problem until yesterday.

If it is still under warranty, you should take it in, as getting in there would involve removing the clutch, and may be a problem and may make them
not want to cover it.

Did anything out of the ordinary happen around the time it started doing this?

Nothing unusual at all. Was running well, oiling great. Shut it down for a quick rest, went back to it about 10 minutes later, and noticed oil drops on my shoe. The bottom of the saw was covered in oil. I played with the adjuster a little, turning it down, and after messing with the adjuster, it seemed to have gotten worse.

+1 for me on the warranty repair. If this saw is still under warranty I'd take it back in and let the Stihl guy look at it. It will save you the headache and they can quickly determine the nature of the problem. (A repair of this nature is not difficult, however, it is also not necessary due to the fact that your saw is under warranty). Keep us posted.

Took your advice...just got back from the shop with her. I had expectations of being without my saw for days, but it only took him about 15 minutes. A white plastic fitting on top of the pump was cracked. I got an entire new pump, and all of the mess cleaned out, so now I'm heading out to play with it!
