Jonsered 630/525 parts

I was wondering if it was possible to get a 525 chain brake mechanism (whole cover with handle) to fit my 630??

Sorry - it will not fit, the brake handle on the 525/535 series locates on both sides of the saw, the 630 locates on one side. I would think the 625 one would fit - pretty much the same saw!

What is missing - the whole thing or just parts? Parts for these are getting a bit scarce - got a 630 and two 625s at the mo.

Yes, and one off a 670 will work too. There are a few different chainbrake styles on these saws, and any will fit if you use the whole thing.

Also one from a Husky 61,66,266,268,272 will work too. They extend further to the rear of the saw than the Jred ones. But can be cut off just behind the sawdust deflector and painted red. I have a 630 set up this way and it works fine. I am not positive they have to be cut off but
mine was broken off ragged so I trimmed it off fush with the bandsaw. Just another possibility if you have trouble finding one for the 625,630,670. But no, one from a 525 will NOT work ever, at all.

Alot of parts are still available, even if your local dealer say NLA, most are in aa wharehouse within the continent or available overseas. Any time Husqvarna lets me know then doing a web order that the part is NLA, all it takes is a phone call to head office and poof the part is available from another wharehouse (only two here in Canada) or its available overseas. I have had parts ship directly from Sweden through normal channels. For example 61 parts......well they still make the 61 in certai markets so parts are available...........you just need to find a dealer that will make the extra effort and has played the game/knows who to talk to.

Chainbrake

Does anybody know if the aftermarket (Husky) chainbrake covers will work with a full wrap handle?? The website says they wont, but then again, the website says they will not work on a Jonsered 630,670!

Thanks for all of the great replies! My 630 is missing the brake band, spring and whatever else is included. i have been to my local chainsaw dealer (The only one in the whole area) and he reckons he can get the band but nothing else. I shall get looking for a husky one i think. I'll let you guys know if i come up trumps. Thank you once again

Well i got lucky!! I have bought and paid for a husky 61 chain brake off Ebay. £15 delivered, i think thats around 30-40 US dollars. I cant wait to get it all working properly!

Welcome to the site soal6, as I said earlier I am not sure if you have to alter the Husky cover to fit the Jreds or not. Mine is but was broken and ugly so I trimmed it up and painted it red. Mine is also the later type Husky cover with the plastic handle. When I get to the shop (couple hrs) I have an early type Husky cover with the metal loop handle and I'll try it on a 670 case I have
and let you know how it fits and/or if it will require any alterations. Is the one you got off ebay the metal handle one or the plastic handled one?

Thank you Cantdog! The handle on the cover i have bought is the old metal type. I really hope it fits now!lol. I cant wait to get the brake working. At least then i'll feel a little more comfortable using it. Its my first chainsaw that i've owned and it feels alright to use but i havent got much experience with other saws to compare it too.

The 630 is a very nice saw to use IMHO. It's good that your handle is the metal type as that is what I have to try, I'll let you know what I find as soon as I get to the shop.

I put one of the aftermarket Husky ones on my 670 once, just to see if it would fit. It does, and here's the proof.

OK Here's the deal with the Husky 61 metal handled clutch cover/chain break.
On close inspection on two different Jreds and the Husky 61; first it will bolt right on with the break, clutch and bar studs all in alignment. However the Jred top handle is shaped differently than the Husky and it seems to interfere slightly with the very top of the clutch cover on both Jreds I have. You may be able to space the cover off enough to eliminate this. Worst case is to cut the cover to the shape of the original Jred cover. This can be easily accomplished by simply following the backside of the sawdust deflector and sawing this back part of the Husky cover away. The 630 I have with the Husky cover was a real beat work saw when it came to me (free) missing parts and nonrunning. The cover was just broken off (like with a hammer!!) so I cleaned it up on a wood cutting bandsaw and painted it red. Now I can assume the previous owner just beat the metal away until it fit. I put a new Meteor piston in this saw and ported it to about 58% and it runs and work perfectly now. Good luck with your cover, you'll see what I mean when you go to put it on the saw. Again you may be able to space it off enough to overcome this interference. It comes real close to clearing and may on your saw as my handles may have been bent slightly or not.

Good looking 670 BTW did you find the top handle a bit close with the aftermarket cover? The stock one just touches on mine and would probably wear quickly with the flexing of the AV mounts. The top handle and brake handle were OK on this saw, but as you said, who knows if the handle was bent a little. And as the brake pivot pin wears, a lot of times you have to pull the handle back further to disengage it. This combined (or not) with a slightly bent handle will make a stock set up not work.

I don't have a 266 the one I was speaking of is a 630 Super II. I widened the intake and exhaust port to about 58% of the bore diameter. Cleaned up the transfers as best I could with a regular dremel. I also enlarged the windows in the piston as much as seemed feasible and cleaned up irregular casting marks to achieve as much flow as possible. Then just smoothed everything out and matched the intake to the carb. If you use the search engine on the site you can find loads of info by more experienced porters/builders than me. That's where I got my info. The 61/268XP in my sig I did the same just took it to 63% and changed out the 163A carb to a 250A from a 670 Super II Jred. That saw is real strong, starts and runs perfectly.

The 58% means that the total width of the exhaust port width plus the intake port width is 58% of the bore diameter?
