I was wondering what these saws run like stock. I have a chance to buy the original model new with 20" b/c for a great price but I can't seem to find any opinions of them in their stock form because of all you motorheads modding them. I know they have alot of speed but what about torque? Are they heavy handed operator friendly? I happened to find a oregon 28" bar at a garage sale that would fit a 372 but can it pull that size and still have enough torque to not bog on me if I getover zealous? After all the love thats given to this saw I really want one now but I dont mod anything so I wanna make sure im gonna like this saw if I buy it.

I had a stock 362xp its a little smaller than the 372 but it ran like a champ. My dad has a ms460 and cutting firewood, you could barely tell the difference. His ms460 was a tad quicker but not by a much. I haven't had a chance to compare it after the big bore kit. But I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if the price is right I LOVE my husky:D

I don't own one, but the 372xp is one of the most impressive stock saws I've ever run! And bullet proof.

It'll pull a 28" bar fine, but a 24" is likely a better choice.

one of husky's flagship saws. unbeatable power to weight ratio, very reliable and awesome power. for the right price, i'd jump on that in a heartbeat!!

Mine is still bone stock except for a MM.

Throw an 8 pin on it for use with the 20" and full comp.
It's like cheating.

You should be able to heave on it all ya want with the 7 pin and a 24" and full comp.

Mine wears a 28" GB and skip chain most of the time, and no issues with having to be light handed at all. With full comp and 28", it is near it's limit however when buried in a log, and skip is faster.

I have a 32" I tried with skip on the 372, and it's not overly fussy about it, but it is obviously a bit much.

The Muffler Mod woke things up a good bit, and after your warranty is up, you'd be losing out if ya didn't open yours up.
Dumping the rev limited coil is also helpfull if you tune by ear, as the factory limited unit makes it nearly impossible to tune out of wood.

The 372 is pretty much just a 346 on Steroids LOL!!
Tuned right, they are just as snotty with explosive accelleration.
Once you get the ear for cutting with one and letting it have it's head in the cut, ya get spoiled.;)

372

i have 2 xpw and xp the xpw has a little more than the xp but ther great saws good luck

I built a 365 into a 372BB, and I loved that saw, wish I hadnt sold it. Sooo I put a 372BB on my 2163 Johnny Red today!

I wish I could get the 74.5cc xpw still. Dealer said the new xpw's are the 71cc models. That would make life so much sweeter to have that beast.

I have a stock 372xp without a MM. Would it be worth putting on an 8 pin or should I leave it alone ? I guess I'll get to doing the MM soon. Should be nice.

Sure,

For the 20" bar and full comp it's a hoot.

I have a 372bb ported mm 165 psi at 5500' 7 pin at this altitude 24" is about all it can take in hard wood. Husky 2100 for anything bigger.

Don't tell my ported MS460 that.

He wants a stock saw and his 460 can't handle it so a 372 probably won't do.

Well if that is the case, a MS660 or 390xp/395xp are all good choices. The 75cc 372xpw might do ok, they seem to be slightly stronger compared to the MS460. Its all personal choice.

If you want to push hard on a 28" bar you need a 90cc saw.:chainsawguy:

A 28" bar isn't really 4" longer than a 24" one, and the way it cuts with 24" tells me that it probably will be fine with 28" as well.

If you are heavy handed, and the wood hard and large, you may prefere skip chain - just try the options and find out what you like best!

A 28" is only about 2" longer than a 24" on a husky. The chain is 7 drivers longer so with full comp I think that's 3 more teeth. There's almost no difference in felt power with either. I think a 28" is fine on a 372.
