I ran across a stihl 650 with a 36 inch bar and chain. I was wondering what is the most anyone would give for this saw. It looks to be like new. It has a stihl bar and chain that looks to be "new" also.
also is there really any differences in the 660 and 650?? and why would stihl make 2 saws that close in size??
Dont really know if I would have a use for such a big saw, but was thinking about running it and sale it if I dont ever find a use for it.

Ms 650

If you get it under 450.00 buy it. If you dont like it re-sell it for some money. 650 is 85cc and 660 is 92cc if im correct. Most people would pay the extra money and get the 660. Search it here you will get the pro's and con's of the 650

If you can get the 650 cheap.....there isn't any reason not to buy it. I can't figure out what the market is.....but it is basically the 660 with a little smaller engine. The 650 is 6.4 HP and 84.9cc, the 660 is 7.0 HP and 91.6cc Since it weighs the same as the 660 and has less power - most people go with the 660. The website for the local dealer doesn't show a list price on the 650, so maybe they are no longer selling this model. The 660 starts at just a bit over $ 1,100 by the time you pay taxes.....so I would think a 650 in the $ 600 range would be a good buy.

the ms 650 is a value price 660 my dad run a dealership and had a tree service wear it out in a month i would wait for a nice 660 to come around:hmm3grin2orange:

thanks guys for the replys. They are wanting $500 for it. I may be able to get it for $450. Like I said I dont really have a need for a sw taht big so I would proably just resale it.

Buy it, and keep it around for awhile before you unload it.....you might just like it - Sam

I've tried a search a couple of times. Even before I posted the original post. I cant get anything to come up. probably just a armature mistake

Not much to say about the differences, the 650 uses a 52mm p&c, the 660 a 54mm. Other than the p&c and name plate, they are the same saw. The 650 just produces a little less HP than the 660. For the money, most folks will go for the 660. A like new 650 for $500 is a Stihl.:D Make sure it runs and has good compression. That could be the reason for selling a "like new" 650.;)

Not sure the best way to bring this up...to reopen this thread that is a few months old that I found by searching, or to start a brand new one. So I apologize if I made the wrong choice, but here goes:

A couple of you have implied that 650 and 660 are IDENTICAL except p/c...There is a 650 for sale locally as parts, not real sure what the issue may or may not be as of yet, but aside from that, if it needs (or ever ends up needing) a p/c can I just slap on a 660 (or even a 660 BB) p/c and then essentially have a "660" on my hands?

Yes

Same lower end, bolt on and go.

TY guys, I pretty much figured that was the case, but as I am quite inexperienced with various models, I wasn't for sure...and always want to verify with the guys who KNOW. Thanks Again

I would be on that saw like white on rice!

They are great saws, and unfortunately not very popular. I ran one for a few years, and sold it (stupidly!). I could not tell a difference between that and a 660 until I had buried the 36" bar. As others have said, it is a 660 with a few less cc's.

If you can get it for $500 or less, and it is like new, then that is a very good deal IMO. It's still way more saw than a 460. Buy it, use it, and then decide if you want to keep it or not. At that price and condition, you could almost certainly sell it for more than you paid.

My cents, keep the change.

The last used MS460 that I ran across locally was priced at $430.00. That leads me to believe $450/$500 would be a very good price for a MS650 in good condition.

I still don't uderstand why they make both models though. I mean, they are the same weight but one has less power, though not much less. I would rather see them drop it and bring in the 381/382 or whatever it is now. I bet those are killer saws. :good:

I'm pretty sure that the 650 is no longer available, although there may be some still kicking around on dealer shelves. It was simply a marketing pricepoint that Stihl was trying to hit, and to compete with the Husky 385. The saw is pretty overbuilt for 85cc's, and would probably last quite a long time. I had mine for 3 years, and put a dual port muffler on it. It was a runner. The guy I sold it to loves it!
