When my saw made this noise I wanted to cry

Well I actually did shed a tear when I took the cover off my 362xp and saw all the carnage. When you guys rebuild your saws do you put lock-tite one the cylinder bolts? Well I think I should have! When I first heard the noise I thought dear god NOOOOO!!!!!! For sure my rebuild blew apart because I bought a cheaper ebay kit to bore my baby out. The c-clips just failed and know Im..........well nope instead I found that one of my bolts backed out and the stator/flywheel ate it and it broke the fins off and made a terrible racket. The great part is she still fires right, I just had to pull the cord to make sure she wasn't locked up. My question is..... do the 372 and 362 share the same flywheel? I can't find one on ebay for my 362 put plenty for the 372. Thank goodness for back up saws:biggrinbounce2:I was still able to cut 2 cords for my sister.

Sorry to hear of the carnage. Don`t use locktite on my cylinder bolts but torque them down good and tite, all 4 of them, never had one back out. Can`t help with the flywheel swap, hope some of the Husqvarna guys can help out.

Are the cylinder bolts the same??? 372 and 362???? One of mine is kinda destroyed. The 372 hardware is ALL over ebay but the 362 is not so much

What year is your 362xp? Is it a G model with the heated handles? The 362 was made in two variations. A small bar mount like the 357 and a large bar mount like the 372. The large bar mount was made on the 372 case. The large bar mount being the latter. Lets say about 2005 model

The 365 flywheel is th e same as a 365 flywheel. Just had to replace one. I hate that moulded in key.

Im going to check the year later when I can sneak away from my wife, but also am going to tear the whole top end apart to check the piston pin clips. I hear alot about modding the muffler and porting the cylinder. The muffler mod Im sure is easier and I know I can acomplish but what about porting should I take it to my local dealer? The guy there has told me he knows how to, but do you think I can do it myself. When I first built it the dealer told me the aftermarket kits rings can catch on the ports and self destruct, will the porting help remedy this??

It was built in 1998 serial number 8470130, I take it is the small bar mount? I think if i can't find it on ebay ill try baileys, they seem to have it all.

please tell me you mean the 362=365, because on baileys they dont show it as a 362 flywheel. they say 365 372 not 362.

I use blue loctite 242 , it will hold things in place without needing to use a torch to get it back off. If you need to get it off the bolts I ultra sonic clean them or use lye.

Here is the superseeded flywheel part#537 05 16-05, same for 362,365, & 372. Get one wherever and get your saw going again!

BTW I use blue loctite on all screws when doing rebuilds.

awesome, Im leaving in a couple hours for the weekend, opening day of deer season!!! Ill order it on Tuesday when I return. By then some of my little stihls will have sold on ebay giving me the "My wife don't know about money" needed to buy the flywheel and bolt!!! I have locktite at work

There is a affordable flywheel off of a 385 does anybody know if it will fit. The ebayer who is selling it has it listed for both the 372 and the 385 but I just wanted to double check with you guys first.

I can tell you first hand it will fit. I don't know if there is any diffence in the timing etc though. A few parts interchange between the 385/90 and 371/2's etc.
