I just bought a new to me 346xp made in 2010. Do these saws have low compression compared to most other saws? I tore it down to see if it was scored up but the piston cylinder and ring look perfect. Granted my other 2 saws are a 3120 and a 2100cd both have tremendous compression so those are what I'm comparing them to.

Comparing the "feel" of compression on a 50cc and 100cc saw is like comparing apples and puppy dogs......Stock compression is about 155psi. Unless that saw has a lot of hours, I doubt there is anything wrong with it and you will be fine with it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I figured it was just because I was used to pulling on the big saws. I'll have to hok it up to the guage and see what it reads after I do some mods on it. Anyone dropping the cylinder gasket? If so what are you replacing it with?

Check with a gauge, should be min 125.Decompressor valve could be leaking if you got one.Check ring gap,has to be less than .025.And much much easier to pull than a 3120.

It is best to just replace the decomp valve with the plug Husky offer, or just not use it. It hasn't been depressed a single time on either my 346 or 2153, and never will be - I have one of those plugs, but am in no hurry to use it - maybe on the ol' 353, since the decomp on that one has been used (didn't know better at the time).

Yep........everyone I own....mostly an aluminum can, but some have needed something thicker. The can usually produces a squish of about .017-018. I have also used gasket paper for a little more space and coat it with Yamabond.

You may have to adjust the porting to fit, and make sure the piston doesn't hit the top of the cylinder.....

My 346xp seems really easy to spin , don't know why they put comp release on it. It's still fairly new though only about 20 tanks thru it.

Put one of these in it, you'll make some compression.

Yes please where would I get one of those? I need a pipe too. I dropped the cylinder down to .030 squish. Could of gone gasketless but thought I'd take it slow. I'll run it tomorrow and the tear it down again and port the #### out of it.
