I looked at three new Huskies today, a 235, 435 and 450. The 235 remminded me of my Pouland, both 235 and 435 were hard to pull, much harder than the 450 (which and a larger engine). The 450 was much higher in price but the same bar length as the 435.
Are there 2 grades of the Husqvarnas ? Does anyone know if the 235 and 435 series are any good and why the larger 450 was easier to pull?

Three grades actually. All the the saws you mentioned are in the homeowner category for occasional use. Go to the bottom of the page of the link Chainsaw | Husqvarna | Homeowner

move the slider to the right and you will move from homeowner->moderate/semi-constant use ->professional use excluding the electric saw that is added in at random.

There are 3 different grades of Husqvarna saws. The home owner, The land owner, and the top of the line Xp saws which are professional grade. The 235 is a Rebaged poulan. If I had to choose near the low end of the Husqvarna line I would take the 435 anyday. It is a full Swedish made saw and has higher quality than the 235 or 240s. The 450 you pulled probaly has the spring assisted starting mechanism on it.

As far as im concerned there is only one grade and its professional. You get what you pay for regardless of brand.

Right, real cheap, not so bad and real good. Steve

Same story as their sewing machines.:hmm3grin2orange:

I agree with most of that, but there also are the saws that basically are pro quality, but with lesser engines and no xp designation, like the 353, 359, 365, 570 and 555.

I was thinking more along the lines of Junk, Landowner & Pro, but for the money, skip the first two and buy the best! Of course Troll has some good advice if you're set on the Landowner series.

That "part" of Husky still belongs to E-lux, but not the saws and other OPE stuff.

When someone wants to display their knowledge, I usually just back up and let them.

There is only one grade:

Almost as good as Stihl...

troll!!!!!!!!.............Stihl makes some very good saws, but this thread isn't about Stihl. Please refrain from the attempt to derail!!!:smile2:

I was wondering about this. I've been told that the only difference between a 359 and 357xp is the xp is ported differently for more top end horsepower. Similarly, the 570 and 575xp seem to share everything except the cylinder and the decals...

So what does XP mean? Is there a quality/durability difference between the 359/570 class saws and the XPs?

It is for eXtra Power or eXtra Performance - Husky have used both options in marketing.

I agree with Troll (rarely does that happen) that there are 4 levels of Husqvarnas

1. Poulan's in Husqvarna clothing. The low end saws like the old 142's and the current 240 and 235 saws
are Poulans with orange plastic and minor upgrades.

2. Homeowner series saws like the 440, 450, and 460 Rancher saws modular engine designs
in plastic engine cradles.

3. Pro-Non XP Saws 353, 359, 365 cylinders bolted to metal crankcases, considered "detuned", or smaller displacements
compared to their XP siblings

4. XP Pro saws
