Hello my name Is Bryan and I'm addicted to 2 stroke fumes. But seriously I'm new to arboristsite and to saw modifications . My 361 is my favorite saw for general work, I am now bouncing around the idea of buying a used one to modify (super stock). I was hoping that some members can point me in the right direction. I am not even sure what all of my options are, muffler, port, carb etc? Thanks for your time

So after looking around I've found a member who has shown interest and has a nice collection of modified saw. It looks like its off to Craigslist and eBay for me. In the meantime any one have any thoughts on woods porting or a ported 361 for that matter? Oh well I will post when the build is complete

I'm looking forward to pics and vids of what you're doing. I have a low hours 361, but getting a used/for parts 361 to fix and port up. My best friend was great at super modding saws, but he passed away last month. He taught me most of what he did, so I'm going to see what I can do with another 361 for fun, keeping the newer one stock for comparison to see how I'm doing.

Thanks for your interest, I'm very excited too. I wish I could build/modify my own, but I'm am operator not a machinist. Best of luck to ya, keep me posted on your build.

As for my own project. I am having a hard time tracking one down, EBay is not working so well. I know there are risks involved with buying a saw from some one I've never meet. I take great care of my saws and I get compression readings in the low to mid 140's. About every other saw on eBay is 150psi. Or I get no response when I ask for readings or photos. I am also not going to pay 500 some times more for a used saw.

Just do a search. Brad Snelling has modified just about every thing that can be modified, you can find many of his threads showing the processes involved in detail. There are many good porters on here that are sponsors, Brad Snelling, Mastermind, Stumpy's Customs, Terry Landrum, Simonizer, Tree Slingr, and many others. Most will be willing to share information. Good luck, the 361 is a fantastic saw. Ported properly they should run as strong or stronger than alot of dead stock 70cc saws. I think Brad had one cranked up to 17-18k rpm a few years ago if memory serves me correct.

Thanks Stumpy, I will keep that in mind. How'd the 576 run? I'd like to see a 357xp mod.

It ran very good till the clutch side crank bearing started spinning in the case causing it to run lean. It was shut down before any damage to the P&C. They had problems with the 576's doing that so I've been told by my local dealer. Still tryin to resolve the issue.

As for the 357xp, I haven't had an opportunity to build one of them yet. I do know that they take well to porting.

The 361 is a real nice saw once ported , Ive done quite a few over the last 2 years.
If done correctly they will spank a stock 460.
I do them with no pop-up piston , still get around 190psi and they turn rite at stock rpm when done.

Do you guys still run pump gas with the increased compression? Do you add more oil to your mix after porting? How about carb adjusting do they max out

They still run on pump fuel. I suggest the best you can git in your area. Here it's 91.
No extra oil needed or special carb settings. Just adjust it like a normal saw.

they will spank alot of the modded 460's I've seen as well! my buddy did a 361 for another friend, and he recently put a 3' bar on it and ran through a giant stump cut without bogging it down.

he also did alot of the 441's and they would flat out embarass a 660. He recently did several of the M-tronics, which there are posts up as well. I just thought I'd start with the 361 because it was a saw he recommended that I get a few years ago -- at the time I had some extra cash and picked one up for the fun of it, and always loved that saw. Thought this would be a fun winter project while things are somewhat slower.

I run the highest test pump gas I can get (93 octane) with no issues mixed 32-1 with good synthetic oil ,no issues at all but I do alot of work to the piston to resist detonation.

Never had any issues with the 361 carb dont think you would ever have any problems as long as you stat away from the junk gas with ethanol.

Had a hard time finding Mr. Snellings threads, any links? Mastermind built on heck of a 460. The best 361's i have seen were Timberwolf? Saws (youtube) a while back. It's what started my quest for a ported saw. ECsaw did I see your in Ohio? How far from PA.
