Found this locally and I thought it was pretty cool.

I guess people called it the "megaphone saw" since the exhaust is like a megaphone.

It actually runs and it is LOUD. I HAVE TO YELL A LITTLE AFTER HEARING IT. Looking for suggestions on whether you think it would be better just cleaned up or try to restore and paint to the best of my lack of ability.

Wow, and I thought my Mac was loud lol. I guess loud is relative.

I'd restore it. Something that loud should really be mostly a shelf display piece anyways. May as well have it looking nice!

Thought this was awesome

Went to my local hometown hardware store and they had this sign above the door. Couldn't resist the pic.

Also this is the hardware store that Elvis bought his first guitar.

I think it should be completely redone..

Since Sbow thinks it should be completely redone, perhaps he should volunteer to do it while Tbow is frying those other larger fish. He has a DA-211 to get and deal with!
HELLO?
Igpoe:cheers:

I would leave that one as is... it's prettier IMO.

Few saws should actually look brand new... battle scars tell stories...

I had one and blew it up at a show(field days of the past in richmond va.) in front of 50 or so people:msp_scared:..
I bought another one since then and still love it, take the screen off the megaphone pipe and u can hardly stand the noise:msp_biggrin:

Tear apart

I noticed this morning that I posted in my other clinton thread when I was looking at getting this saw and wondering what it was. This will be the thread that I update.

I started tearing this saw apart last tonight to get it ready to clean up and paint. I believe I have a home for this saw at Tupelo Hardware here in Tupelo Mississippi. They were a Clinton dealer back in the day. They also sold Elvis his first guitar.

I have found a body shop that is willing to mix me small amounts of paint and give me a lesson on painting. I am just hoping after the tear apart and put back together that it runs as good as it did before i tore it apart.

Now the question. After the tear apart and scraping and brushing all of the gunk off, what would you do to get it paint ready? pressure wash it? Steam clean it? engine degrease it?

When I was a kid I lived on a farm and we had a tree in the fencerow blow down and take the fence with it - I believe it was probably around 1967 and I was 12 years old. I did not know much about cutting and took our David Bradley Gear drive saw to cut the tree. The root ball had pulled up out of the ground and the tree and fence wires attached to it was a few feet above the ground - and I assumed the trunk would want to fall down and I cut the tree starting at the bottom and was surprised when the rootball tried to stand back up and pinched our David Bradley. In order to get our saw unstuck I went to the farmer that shared this fence line with us and borrowed his saw.....and my memory was that it was a D35 Clinton.....with the muffler/megaphone/funnel exhaust. The Clinton did a good job and the tree trunk stood right up after the cut was made and we didn't even have to repair the fence. I often wonder how much of my current hearing loss was caused by that Clinton!
