Hi there I have a husqvarna 372xp chainsaw that wont start.I lent the chainsaw to a friend(idiot) who put diesel in the tank and ran it until it cut out and it wont start now.I have took of the carb and cleaned it also took off the cylinder to inspect it it has slight scratches.I have removed sparkpllug and there is spark also I put my finger over sparkplug inlet and there is compression there.I have tried easy start but no good. All it does is now and then it backfires could someone please help the only thing I did not clean was the jet in the carb.

With diesel in the tank, you shouldn't have hurt the p/c any more than what it was before, but your fuel system needs a complete purge. I know if that is done in a car sometimes the fuel pump gets fried and the injectors need to be ultrasonically cleaned. Hopefully you can salvage that carb? I would start with a new fuel filter and carb kit (and clean all the crap out of the carb while it's apart!). You may have issues getting the carb to clean, good luck!

Thank you

That right there is a good example of why I dont loan out saws to friends. I personally would haul that saw down to the nearest reputable saw dealer, have him fix it, and hand the bill to your friend. Its just about the only way some folks learn to be careful with other folks tools.

In the future,if you somehow forget this latest episode of Giligans Island and decide to loan out your saw again, I personally would recommend that along with the saw goes a gallon jug of fresh fuel that you mix up yourself, along with a jug of bar oil. It might remove the chances of the fuel tank coming back with diesel fuel and the bar oil reservoir full of mom's used cooking oil complete with some chicken nugget floaters in it.

still not working

Hi again I just fitted carb repair kit put it all back together still no joy only backfired now and then.also I put teaspoon of fuel in plug hole still no good any help ideas please.

I would compression test to get an idea of where it is at. You report having spark and fuel. With proper compression, the saw should run.

Hi thanks for your reply I took cylinder off again and noticed that the piston ring is stuck in the piston groove at one point because it wont have proper compression do you think if I change the piston it might work any help appreciated cheers.

Thanks for quick reply what grit paper should i use to remove the excess aluminium on the cylinder head cheers.

Do a search here for cylinder cleaning. Lots of info on the subject.

Use muratic acid and a Q-tip. Then 220-320 grit paper.

Sunfish thank you very much for the info may god bless you so as you win the lottery cheers.
