Guys, I'm interested in buying a 346 husky, and wanted to know of what I sbould look out for and what the differences are between the 346xp, 346ne, and 346oe and any other 346 that husky might make. Any model in particular thats better suited to muffler mods and porting? I plan on doing these mods to it.

They are all XP models.

OE stands for old edition.
NE stands for new edition.

The old edition is 46cc with no primer.
The new edition is 50cc with primer, gray clutch cover, more power, and the hill people notice an increase in weight also.

They are both awesome. The older models have a plastic style clamp holding the intake boot to the cylinder which is something to watch out for. Another change they made at some point is a wire clip on air filter vs. a twist lock filter.

And I don't even own one. The 346 aficionados will fill you in better.

The only one to avoid is the Etech. Same saw, but has a cat muffler. It can be replace with a regular muff, if you happen to find a good deal on one.

I have OE and NE, both fantastic saws!

Thanks for the responses guys!! Ok, good to know they are all xp models. So does the 346xp labeledr saw have the plastic clamp for intake boot or metal? Also, is there a noticeable power difference between the 46cc and 50cc model?

Just the old edition, pre 07 has the plastic clamp. My old one had the plastic clamp and never gave me any trouble. Has a metal one now though.

The 50cc has more torque, but the 45cc OE is a high rpm, Fast Cuttin little Beast! :D

I am surprised that no one has mentioned that the NE has the limited coil:yoyo::yoyo::yoyo:

Otherwise, I agree with what has been stated above...and the NE being heavier is a myth.

Limited coil.....good to know. Actually it was one of the saws in your signature that I'm interested in.

Yep Neil, there is that. My NE still have the limited coil and I haven't felt like changing it yet.

Agreed on the weight issue too. ;)

I bought my 346 from Murph and I love the saw. Does most of what my 362 does and made my 250 obsolete.

I do use and appreciate all three but the 346 is a sneaky little beast...

I haven't been the same since I bought my first one in 2001. :hmm3grin2orange:

What rpm are the NE models limited to?

Which one has the better port specs stock?......NE or OE?

I think the NE's are limited to around 14,000. Not sure the exact rpm. A none limited coil is an easy swap though.

Both have hot rod port design. Can't go wrong with either. I have both and like them equally well. Best two saws I've ever owned! :)

I'm curious as to what the port durations are. Its getting real tempting to pull the trigger on the 346. I wish i could try one locally first, cause even tho the majority of others might like it, i may not. Everyone else seems to like the 026/260 saws alot and i think they suck and are over rated. Hopefully i dont have that same opinion if i get this 346.

If you don't think its nutz are big enough stock or with a MM, then you can send off to Mastermind (it's his fave saw) for a little 'massaging' .... :hmm3grin2orange:

Then you need the NE. It will flat stomp a 026 into the ground.

I will never forget when I got my first NE. I MM'd it within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box. With the very same RSC chain, it was as quick as my 361(stock) in a piece of 10" dried oak.

That's what I like to hear. A 346 OE should also stomp a 026???
