The Fix...

Welder of course... I didn't go for a beauty queen so no laughing at the rough look. It's back to 100% functional and about 70% of it's looks. Note that I mig welded in the front screw tubes so that they won't break loose from the factory crimp again. The back side was a challenge to get mig'ed in and leveled off even so that there weren't exhaust leaks. 95% ofthe grinding was a regular old angle grinder. 5% Dremel grinding on the screw holes front and back. I would have spent more time to make it look better but this was pro-bono work... Sorry Uncle Rico... you might have to make it look a little more pretty yourself.

That one was pretty far gone

I hope he takes it off before it gets that bad again?

Yeah... I tried to leave extra meat on the edges so it would hold up longer for him...:msp_biggrin:

Also for those that might pass by... I hear Por15 has a good high temp paint that sticks and does really really well about not burning off like high temp grill paint or header paint does... For those that need a pretty saw...

High Temperature Paints-POR-15 Inc.

Nathan, good job on the gratis work...

I use the POR15 Black Velvet header paint.

THanks neal! I was thinking it was a thread of yours that I read the Por15 suggestion on... I'd buy some but all my saws are runners and not beauty queens... :)

PS: IS the Por15 supposed to keep the muffler cooler? I know some ceramic paints claim they keep the metal cooler...???

Nice work Nathan! I really appreciate the help and generosity, sure beats buying a new muffler.

I'm not worried about looks on this saw, it's an HD rental that I recently picked up for $100 so the rest of the saw isn't that pretty anyway. It's eventually going to get the BB top end and will likely end up going on my small log mill.

I might look into that paint though, just to try it out. The top covers and clutch cover have already gotten a coat of black paint.

PS Rep is on the way, as soon as I figure out how to dish it out.

bang for the buck... I'd get the $90 BB kit from Northwoodsaw.com

I just put Norhtwood's kit on my saw and it's a great value being a nikasil coated P&C for under $100. I also suggest leaving out the base gasket as my squish was at 0.040-0.050 (can't remember exactly) before I took mine out. I used Yamabond4 to seal the cylinder down. Have to say it really is a huge improvement over the 64cc version. I'd also suggest getting the HD air filter kit for it. My Dolmar dealer traded me one for a load of uncut wood... I think they are about $50 at cost for the dealers. The HD filter setup is a HUGE HUGE HUGE improvement in filtration over stock... Especially if you are running it in heavy dust conditions like milling!!!!

Those are both on the wish list, we'll see how soon I'm able to make it happen. I'll be sure to check the squish as well.

make sure to price your dealer. Mine quoted me a cheaper price for the HD system even before trading him for the load of wood!

Retail in the New England area is only $75 is so getting one for $50 or under is pretty good!
