I have owned a Dolmar 6800i since new. I bought in around 2000.
I bought it to replace a Stihl 042..the problem was it never had the
Guts like my 042..does it have problems or did I just have a freak
042? The harder you pushed or pulled on the 042 the more
Chips it would throw..anyone that ran my 042 was in awe including
Husky lovers. Back to my 6800i.. It has no problems never needed
Anything just never had the throaty rev when you bury it to work.
It is still like brand new.. I am going to tear it down and look more
Closely at muffler ... ANY IDEAS? I will also take a compression
Reading? Thanks..

I would think that maybe the older 042 might have
a tad more torque. But the 6800I should really out cut
the 042. I've run several 6800I saws and they run really
well. Lots of power for there size. I would take a look
at your 6800I and see if something is wrong.

Have you ever tuned the carb? The 6800i that I have runs great, with plenty of power.

Might have answered my own question!

Have you ever tuned the carb? The 6800i that I have runs great, with plenty of power.

As far as tuning the carb..my son and I fly large model planes so Yes I do keep on top of the carb tuning. (we have a great Tach and Spark tester http://www.gtc.ca/EN/TA500_EN.html Plus I am an old(as dirt) motocross guy from the 70's..so I have been around 2 strokes for a while. After searching out all the tips on Dolmar mufflers on this site..and I always take apart my saws and clean mufflers..I removed the muffler...piston and cylinder look like new as I suspected...well the 6800i does not allow an easy disassemble of muffler...so I pried apart the tabs...removed the spark mesh and bent the interior tab off....HOLY cow does this saw run and sound a lot better..I wonder if all the 6800i's have the spark mesh wire? Or just the latest ones? I will retweak the carb next cutting but I was thrilled this afternoon..there was a bit of carbon and the plug color was a little strange....3/4's darker brown/black and 1/4 whitesh? I will put a new Bosch and give her a run this week...the saw is much closer to my 042 now....hard to believe a little mesh and tab was that restrictive...FEEDBACK??? I am really interested in hearing about other 6800's and mufflers..original mesh or NOT..also mods...pictures of MODS.....I became suspect of the muffler after recently buying an older Dolmar 111 noticing NOT much interior stuff on the old saw and reading about all of the muffler mods on the newer Dolmars...IThanks for any pictures and help Bill
