I know this likely isn't the best location for this but I'm looking at possibly swapping out the engine on my Ariens Rocket V Tiller. Currently it has a Tecumseh H50 Iron Sleeve engine and wondering if any of our local small engine guys have any recommendations. The tiller does work okay, but the engine is getting a bit tired and worn out.

Any suggestions/recommendations are welcome (except buying a new tiller).

Briggs has some pretty good prices for re-powers. Check with your local Briggs & Stratton dealer.

Assuming your Rocket has the same setup as mine did (I sold it), your big concern in repowering will be the counterrotating PTO shaft used for reverse. You can still buy Tecumseh engines with this feature, and they're not any more expensive than those without the PTO for reverse or a B&S repower. Try smallenginewarehouse dot com, they seem to have these sorts of engines more often than most online or brick-and-mortar retailers.

I just sold a similar tiller that came with a 4hp Briggs, so I imagine there gotta be something out there for it.

Help Needed Ariens Rocket V11 tiller

:redface:I didn't want to be the culprit of starting a new rototiller thread in the chainsaw forum so I latched on to this old thread. Looking for someone with an Ariens Rocket model V11 rear tine rototiller. The tiller is missing the drag bar or tilling depth bar that is positioned at the rear of the tiller behind the tines. The bar may have 6 or more holes drilled into it for the depth adjustment. I would like to buy an original bar  or TRY to fabricate something that is similar to the original. I've seen them in pictures online but don't have the measurements of the part. I'm asking for help....................

I have a Rocket V. I'll be happy to make you a full size tracing of the one on mine and include measurements. PM me with your mailing address and I'll get it on the way in a couple of days.

Thank you very much importjunk for your time and help with the plans for the Ariens tiller. You are good people:msp_smile:.

Hope to test the unit when it stops raining...........

Happy to be of help. Looks like a good build. I bought mine new sometime in the early 1970's. I'm on the third set of times and second engine. I have a Troy-built horse model, but the the Ariens is a better tool. Good gardening.

We ran this tiller last week without the depth adjustment and the cast iron Tecumseh 7hp engine pulls along great. My father is 80 years young and he got to liking it a bit too much for my comfort. We raced with his troybilt 8hp briggs and with both of us in high gear and full throttle he's got me beat. When we went side by side tilling in low gear I slowly walked away from him. Both machines do a good job tilling.. The troy bilt is a beast to turn around and heavy in general. Several inches wider in cut as well. In my opinion the Ariens tiller is a better machine. Easy to swing the handlebars, easy to push quickly in neutral from one location to another. Starts in two pulls cold. The machine is 99% complete now due to the help of a fellow member on this site. Again, I say thank U

This is an Ariens Rocket V11 model tiller guessing built about 1982

Ariens Rocket Vll tiller

Ran the tiller several times since the last time I posted and the motor starts fine and idles fine but after 10 minutes of tilling the engine will loose power and then after several seconds regain it and it repeats itself in short time intervals. 7 HP tecumseh cast iron motor. New carb kit was installed after the above menioned but no difference. Changed spark plug no difference. Air filter is clean. Fresh fuel. Any ideas on a fix or cure would be appreciated. My father loves this tiller.:help:

Fuel system problems are a good possibility. Ignition problems may become apparent when an engine heats up. The condensor and the coil can break down when they become heat soaked. If you can't find fuel system problems, change the points and condensor first. If that doesn't work, you may need a coil.

Digging up this Thread. Just had a Rocket V given to me. Seems to be a pretty good unit for how old it is. Missing the Depth shoe at the back as well.

I tried the depth shoe on my Rocket V11 and found the tiller works best without it.

Yes, thanx Phil.

Yeah, thats what i figured. Funny thing is though. This machine has sat in the field behind my old mans house through the deep snow winters and hot summers for i would say 7-8 years uncovered and unstarted the whole time... :msp_mellow:

Dad dropped it off today to me, i threw some new fuel in and it leaked out all over the floor :msp_tongue: pulled the carb off, cleaned it all out, took the needle and seat out, put a new seat it, set the float,....threw it back on, more gas in....the thing fired up after a few pulls. Tried it out for a good while in the garden, thing is a beast of a machine. They sure dont make the new stuff like this old good iron. Same with my 1980 1132 TORO snowblower...thing is a power house.

Thanx again.

Edit: Anyone know the reverse belt size for my machine?
