Looking around on craigslist and seen a listing for this.

Homelite xp1020 chainsaw.

Is that the biggest saw homelite made back in the day?

XP1020s are only 100cc. Now, it may be true that at the time this particular saw was sold, it was the largest Homelite. There would be a narrow time period though since the 2000 was out by late 60s and it was larger than the 1020. For a couple years though, the 100 cc XPs were the biggest. Pretty sure the largest displacement Homelite saws were the 7-29 and 8-29 at a hair shy of 130cc.

After a little digging, it does indeed look like for 1967, the XP-1020, XP-1020A and XP-1130 were the biggest saws sold during that year. By 68, the Super XPs for each was coming out, but still 100cc was the top of the heap as far as size for a new saw on the shelf. By 1969 (or maybe late '68) though the 2000 was on the street and was the biggest sold so the XPs were no longer top dog at the dealer. So, it would be true to say and XP-1020 was one of the biggest Homelites sold during 1967.

Not to derail this thread,
But would you have the same type of info
for the 3100. Would like to know when they
started and stopped production.

3100 certainly appears short lived. One book I have shows intro in 1970, but the earliest CSA articles were from early '71. Ads show it side by side with the 2100S. Nothing definitive for actual ending time, but nothing seems listed past 1972, so I tend to believe Mr. Acres for the end date. Prices at the time show not much more than an 1130. Ah to be able to go back in time!

Would $75 be a good price for a running xp 1020? I don't really need another saw but wanted to know about what a good price was for vintage homelites.

You seen it listed on craiglist too? I don't need another saw. I have 4 already and only use 2 of them. There I talked myself out of it.
