Anybody have one or kno of a decent deal for a bar chain n rim in .404 for the torque monster 461?Just shelled out 97 bux for a 20" rolo es with full chiz n some new files at the dealer:dizzy: . I wanted 404 but he wouldn't sell it to me "to much for a saw like that"he says .

I honestly have never used it before on anything. In my head it seems logical that it will cut same or quickr and have to be sharpnd less. I've been rong befor and will be again.

.404 will take a lot more out of the saw .3/8. It will not be as efficient. About the only benefit I can think of is more durability in more demanding than average conditions. Australia comes to mind.

.404 isn't practical for well......pretty much anything under 100cc. And even then there's no real benefit to running it over 3/8 vibration would be the biggest turn off.

.404 seems to get disparaged here quite often.

It has it's place...but unless you NEED a more 'rugged' chain than 3/8ths or regularly cut in dirty wood, there really is no advantage to it. My personal view (and experience with it) is that it is a 'tough' chain, but not the 'best' chain for most folks.

And yes, you need a saw with the 'Heuvos' to pull it.

Flint.

.404 on ms 660 breaks crankshafts

Good to kno . I think I started a trend just saw a post about 404 on a even smaller saw. I mite get a hard nose and a loop just to try it n if it dnt work good keep the duro an put 3/8s back on it:rock:

.404 seems fine on my 385. 3/8 seems faster but love the 404 for trees near dirt roads where the bark collects the red dirt dust here in NC. Also good in standing dead hardwoods like locust and anything lightning struck.

Been running .404 on my 394 with a 24" bar, cuts very well indeed as long as I don't try to honk it around too fast.

Getting ready to set up one of my 82cc MACs for .404 duty. As to why: Experiment for dirty wood that quickly dulls my usual 3/8s set up. And because I like the wider kerf. We will see how it goes. Ron
