Looking to get my ol man an alaskan saw mill, budget is around 300. what the best, any help is appreciated, thanks

look at the design of alaskan.How much can you fab on your own or friends help. many have made a mill for themselves for cheap. Read mill 101 see how others have modded the original. All the info on this site has shortened the learning curve for most of us.There are more mistakes/corrected here than I could make n correct in a couple lifetimes. Also the creative genious of so many thinkers on here can not be measured in terms I know (-;

Depending on the size you're after, you should be able to get a Granberg for around that price. You can get a Panther Pro 2 for about 2/3 of that cost. "Best" can be defined in different ways. I opted for the Panther when I bought mine, primarily because of cost, and I was not sure how much I would use it. It has proven to be a good value, but I have modified it some. If I had it to do over again, and had the cash, I would probably opt for the Grandberg.

Thank you sir, i will look into those

My alaskan 24" mill has been money well spent. I also got the 9' aluminum rails for the first cut. This spring I am planning on getting the 5' extension and a 48" mill so I can handle bigger logs. The only problem I had was the u bolts that set the depth of cut stripped. It was my fault for over tightening them though.

What size saw does he have and what size logs does he want to mill? The smaller open ended Granburg is only $120. Says it's good for 20" bars, Joe.

You can get a 48" Granberg from toolcenter.com for under $250--that's a great price. I got 42" PantherPro II last year primarily because it was less expensive, but I'm thinking of selling it and getting the larger Granberg because it's supposed to be much lighter.

With that said I don't know if it's spamming or not but I ordered some items from Madsens and let me tell you that was the best customer service I have experienced in decades and if I had known about them before hand I would would have purchased my mill from them, and their pricing is very competitive.
