I must be. I went out tonight when I got off early from work and cut just shy of 4 cords of mostly Doug Fir before it got too dark. I had two helpers and I had my 575, 7900, and don't laugh, MS 290 all ready before hand. I did most of the cutting and all of this wood was piled up and most of it was 30' long. A lot of it was kind of on the small side (8"=10"), but that is about all the production I can get out of my group of guys. Roughly 4 cords in a little over 5 hours. So the question is are we all just really pathetic excuses for wood cutters? Are we doing something that is incredibly inefficient and that is slowing us down? Or are all the people that say they went out and cut 10 cords on a Saturday full of crap. I know this, if I had been by myself I probably would have only gotten 1 cord, if that cut and loaded. And it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun as cutting with the guys.

I just thought of something right after I posted. We were talking about the prospect of Billary for President on the way over to the site. This could very well have depressed us and slowed down our production.

LOL, thatll do it!

Sometimes I question peoples claims also.

Nothing wrong with that, I'm a gimp and just under a cord per tank of rounds (12-18" diam. dougy) per hour (with the screamin' MS270btw) is about right by me :D But then there is the knarly junk :chainsaw: :chainsaw: grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, slows a man down, all I could do today to keep up with three young splitters, GAH! (promiss pics will be posted in 'MS270 Does Its Duty' thread, really beat but I'll rem). :greenchainsaw:

I just think that the 10 corders must be on some kind of drug. I'm not a guy and I bought a little pickup so I DON'T KILL MYSELF AND CAN DO OTHER THINGS AFTER WOODCUTTING. Like---soak in the hot tub. Fluffy, the saw can cut it quickly so it isn't such a pain to get a "load" of wood anymore. And I run a saw for work at times so that isn't such a "treat". I do like coming home from a rainy day of work and having the wood stove to sit by after a soak in the tub.... Does anybody know where I can buy Barbie stickers for my work saw? (That would be Twinkle) That way no guys will ever borrow it.:)

Cord or a Cord

I have seen many posters mention those huge cord #'s but I believe they mean face cords not full cords like a poster a few days ago saying he had 4 cord in the back of a horse trailer. A full cord of oak weighs in the neighborhhood of 4500 lbs 4500*4= 18000lbs lets see that in a horse trailer.

Just my 2 cents

+1 Yup.

Some mix terms/meanings. (some I think are just full of Bullshizz)

My take, don't worry what others claim for production and have fun getting your wood-work done. Actual firewood production will vary depending many variables, are you cutting on slopes, rocky ground? Or thinning out an ag field hedgerow that you can drive right up to? Are you cutting dead Oak & Hickory? Or live Red Maple and Ash? Variables, variables........

Most importantly, work within your abilities and be safe out there. As long as you're satisfied with your days take, who cares what someone else claims.

a full cord per man of hardwood cut, split with a splitter and stacked is a full days work.
guys have told me they do two a day but now your pushing, fatigue and chainsaws don't work well together.
now if someone has a processor, skidder, conveyor, trucks, etc, they can pump out some cord wood in a hurry.

When I go out cutting, I go by myself. I am using a Homelite Super XL with a 16" bar. I am cutting hardwoods (mostly red & white oak) up to 16" diameter. Including dragging the logs with the truck to the road for cutting, then splitting (by hand) and stacking, I'm lucky to get 1 cord a day. And that's a full (10 hours) day. Of course, I do take frequent breaks, since I'm not "working" for anyone at the time.

tech, your doing alot of bull work there, a cord cut and split by hand is a lot of work for a day,my hat is off to you!!!
I love it when someone tells us they can cut, split and stack two, five or whatever,we laugh at them.

With my ms361 I can cut enough Doug fir to fill a 6 x 10 x 3 trailer in four to six hours depending on how hard I have to look to find the wood. Not exactly sure how many cord that would be but I'd guess one and a half. Depending on the day I'll usually unload the trailer when I get home but dont split the rounds right away. I like to spend an hour or two a night after work getting my frustrations out with my maul. I can have it all split and stacked by Friday and get another load Saturday, four weeks of this and I'm set for the year.

cuttin and splittin

Cuttin' is one thing, when you get the splittin in there also, that's a different story. Just to cut for a day you can cut quite a few cord if your set up with a pile of logs, it's everything else that's associated with it that slows you down. 4 or 5 cord for a day for a few guys if your dragging and loading, and splitting, FULL CORDS, is ALOT of wood. Sunday, I cut/split/loaded and delivered between 4 and 5 face cord. I WAS WHOOPED. The wife was at work, I had an order for 2 full cord, 6 face cord, that I had only started and needed done by sunday. The wife and my buddy helped me load/deliver it though, THANK GOD... I'm not in the shape I used to be for sure... I think average is about 1 full cord, per man per day cut/split/stacked. If the logs are right there, little more. Figure this, 16" logs, full cord, 162 blocks, with at least each of them split in 4's, 500 or so hits with the maul, 162 cuts with the saw, moving them out of the way, filling up with gas, sharpening chains, stacking, moving etc... Lots of time involved there. Split till your tired then have a brew dude, lmao..

I guess I am a wuss too!!!!

My woodcutting day goes like this:

One hour on the road geting there.
Three to four hours cutting/carrying it out of the woods (with 1-2 other helpers)
One hour on the road getting home.
Three to four hours splitting it.

That gets 4-4 1/2 FACE cord. That is a 16'x80" trailer three foot high. With a hydraulic spliter, and we are all BEAT!!!

I am looking foreward to going this year, with the new truck I can take four instead of just three of us, and it should pull it better:clap:
