On my 361, I did my Lakerized muffler mod. (or close to it)
Removed the limiter cap on the H setting.
Opened up the screw 1/3 of a turn to richen the mix.
Ran it maybe 30 hrs. if that.
Then just thought that I better replace the limmiter cap. DUH !!!:dizzy:
I called my dealer today, and he said that they can't sell them.
I would have to come in and have the dealer install them.
Because the limiter is there for a reason,
and that reason is the Government.
He said 15 mins of labor, and a twenty dollar bill would cover it.
Is this just a Michigan law ???
I dont want to spend .50 cents on a part and $20.00 for installation.
Can someone help me out ?

The BS meter just pegged , bent the needle even,, I need to get a newer digital one.

There is no enforcement in any state , that I know of that prohibits selling parts,,,,,, this wackjob just wants to see your muff-mod.

Your dealer is pathetic.... they list for 60 cents msrp... Slice the tab off you old cap and stick it back on.

If you get stuck I'll send you a pair for free!

I have purchased limiter caps at two different Stihl dealers and they were glad to sell the parts, and I do the install. Sounds like you have a bad dealer.

Wow!

Star burst,,,,just before me eyes, I give ya a 'Gotcha' and your rep went 'Super-Nova" seen it once before!

Congrats

Hey Kev,
Thanks alot.
It took awhile.
But good things come to those that wait..

WOW, Now I feel what it's like to be famous...
Remember the movie, (The Jerk ).
Nathan felt important to have his name in the phonebook ???
That's me tonight !!!

Oops,
threw my old cap away.
And I thought my dealer was on the up and up ...
I was really shocked when he told me that they wont sell them to the public.

I asked "Well what happens if I damage my engine if I don't increase the richness ?"

"Well that is wy that limiter is there, so you don't increase the richness."

So if I want to modify my own saw in any way which I paid for brand new from THIS dealer, I MUST spend .60 cents PLUS TWENTY DOLLARS,
because of govn. regulations ??? (WTH)???

Will this be documented by them, to show that they provided a government service to replace a richness set screw limiter cap, that could have potentially have damaged the ozone ???

And may contribute to Global warming, that will threaten all Mankind ???

Anybody got a limiter cap I can buy ???

Trade ya some paperclips...

Some dealers

treat certain things (like limiter caps, special tools etc) like National Security items.

Back when I was gathering parts for my 361 and 029 muffler mods, I ordered a limiter removal tool and 4 new caps. When the parts came in, the older mechanic said it was OK since I had pre-paid for the stuff, I could have them, but "Stihl doesn't want the special tools sold to just anybody." (his emphasis)

<:D> this is the same shop that told another ASer that they could lose their Stihl dealership if they sold stuff at less than MSRP <:D>

I had to chuckle inwardly but nod solemnly, and felt I'd best not tell him what was up with those TS fire screens & clamps. :greenchainsaw:

Anyways I reused the original caps on both saws, so if you need a pair, PM me an address and they'll mail out ASAP.

What dealer is it so I don't end up shopping there?.

I probably should keep it quiet.
(weingartz) I mean
it's probably just me, wanting to save money and all.
(weingartz) I mean, if I told him that I am kevinj from AS (weingartz)he
would understand,(weingartz)then charge me more.
(weingartz)So I better not just come out and mention the dealer
by name.(weingartz)I'm sure you understand. ;)

I was going to buy a saw and blower there, but was quoted a better price down the road.

Same here.......I have that dealer in Farmington Hills........I went there last year to buy some commercial Stihl hedge trimmers......when I tried to bargain a little.....the salesman was such a "****" to me.....
