Is there a purpose to turning a bar upside down (text facing the wrong way) - is it to get more life out of it? Just curious why some pictures show saws that way - it would drive me nuts to have it that way if it served no purpose - but that's just me :dizzy:

to get more life out of the bar..

And I suppose just to bug some people like you.. But flip it every time you take it off to clean the groves and sharpen the chain.

Yup, the rails on the cutting side will get groves worn into them and eventually need to be filed flat. Flipping the bar gives you twice the life as the top doesn't wear nearly as fast if at all.

 to the locals!

Yep, I flip 'em each time I do a major cleanup on my saws.

I flip them every day I use the saw more than an hour or so, and use the raker file on the edges as needed - probably overdoing it a bit, but that is much better than the opposite......:) :givebeer:

you can tell bars that haven't been flipped, they cut curves in your trees and eventualy only cut half way thru your tree then bogs down.

heres to cutting in circles,

Well, I have never needed to file the rails down to get them even, on any bar that I have used since new.....:)

Admittedly I mostly use shorter bars, and that may make a difference, as well - but not sure about that.

sucker!

I had a lady once bring back the saw she picked up for her husband.
She told me that her husband said I must not know what I am doing, if I cannot even put the bar on correctly............

She was good lookin, so I was gentle. She was busty, so I was nice.

:hmm3grin2orange:

hell,i can't blame you though.

flipping bars

i usually flip my bar whenever i put a new chain on and then i usually grind the bar after 2 or 3 chains depending on how it looks and if i have time or not

hehehehe

I know some people, if I'd flip their bar around, they'd turn the saw upside down to cut:greenchainsaw:

Now that was funny...

I flip mine everytime I sharpen my chain... I've made a habit of sharpening, tightening and flipping the bar everytime. Only time I don't is if I've just sharpened and hit a stone, then it's a waste of time. It's a good habit to get into for sure...

 eh?
