I placed an order with a certain dealer on the phone, and the guy I talked to said the Solo 681 is basically the same saw as the Dolmar 7900. (I was ordering other stuff, the subject of the Solo came up in discussion).

Anyone know if this is true, that this Solo is basically the same as the Dolmar and Makita? I am merely curious (because I was surpised/skeptical), as I have a couple 7900s and will be sticking to them regardless.

As I was talking to the guy about saws, the subject of the 3120 came up and he says "those things really hammer like jack hammers on the limiter, don't they?"

When I posted that observation in my thread on the 3120 vs 880, I mostly got doped slapped ......

I remember reading that review. Great informative review by the way. I'm just curious what would be the incentive for a dolmar dealership to take on the solo line? Are solos priced that much less than their already reasonably priced dolmars counterparts?

All I can add to this is what my dad told me when I bought my house with the fireplace then added a wood stove to the Garage, and then the house Just after he passed away. He always said Dolmar not Mac was the way to go to me. Maybe he was loyal to one of the first company's he worked for in the old Country. He was worse than Stihl Heads on here! His answer was whats a Stihl? Why would you want one?But I always stuck to my big Macs Now I have a feeling I want a Dolmar. Now I want to piss of some Stihl heads a big Mac will Chew them up and spit them out like a piece of sawdust!Of course this is all just Personal opinion because Mom can trace her roots back to Sweden and Jred are good saws?Husky would be good too if they did not bend the handle on them.I am just having some fun now. My 056 is a great saw but my Mac will show it who is boss! It makes yo wonder what if Mac was still a proud American company. Hell I am drunk and rambling here. But to me old Macs will always be the bench mark. That remark about Husky was directed at the Troll! But I am just having some fun:) But to be honest as long as it cut's wood who cares!

It's funny though that the Germans would make such good saws so long ago but they were looking at Russia. Now my Fiance is going to punch me in the head. But Have you seen some of those saw's the Russians came up with it? it takes two men and a boy to work one!Ah you not old you are middle age you buy that Mustang convertible to compensate yet?

Except for Heidi Klum, nothing good came from Germany.
What about the Diesel engine and the Mauser. Oh and luger and Rim less Cartridges say the fore father to the 06? And the first real cars not just horseless buggies. Not to mention the first light true one man saw's.Ah I hope you have a sense of humor because so many Country's have contributed to the world we know today! As a Canadian we look at things different I still believe Bell the inventor of the phone was a Canuck.

Yeah I have a sense of humor, I am 7/8ths German. My great uncle was Herman Goehring, not that is to be proud of, but I have strong family ties to Germany. I was trying to get under Thalls skin, but you wouldn't give me the satisfaction would you. Dam Canadians, just kidding, our red hat keeps us warm. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are beautiful.
