I picked up a MS170 on the C-list. It was filthy dirty, has a torn plug boot & a slightly bent chain tensioner. Cleaned it up, put on a BG 12" carving chain/sprocket & test ran it. I am getting 13,000 rpm., WAO....it this correct & if not what should the rpm's be?. The thing screams. Thanks to y'all here i had one saw a year ago....now 5 & counting...:help: :help:

Yep, and the muff screen. It went thru dead dry walnut with no prob, so i guess it's in the the ball park. I was suprised how much lighter it is than the 210. Now if i could only get some carving talent on CL i would be good to go.....

I swear i don't know what was on this saw....some kinda mutated congealed blob that was resistant to every cleaner i had except the dental tools. And it was stuck on svery single surface including & especially the the handle....which thinking of the possible source disturbs me.........

Try BarKeeper's Friend--$1.65 at Wal-mart. Good on paint

I have had good luck cleaning painted srfaces with Bar Keeper's Friend. It removes all kinds of stains, but is gentle. Rub lightly for a period of time. That's not the same saw, is it?

Send it to me, I'll carve something with it and send it back (the saw, that is):greenchainsaw:
Butt seriously, what does the bar run? I useda carve a lotta stone, and have a ms 200 rear handle on the way for carving wood

Got off fleaby, guy's handle is Sprocketorgan, It was $88 shipped incl the 1/4 drive sprocket & chain. Shopping around it seemed resonable. He didn't offer the sprocket in his auction, but threw it in atfter i em'd him a question about the proper saw/bar application.

Hey Lake thanks, it sounded so good i didn't really want to mess with the carb.
