Hello all..I know it is very hard these days, but I am trying whenever possible to buy American Made products.I only buy Dodge and Ford vehicles, and even bought an "Olevia" branded LCD tv for the Bedroom that is the only TV that is at the least assembled in California.Anyway,I am looking for a 50-60cc saw, something I could get a 20-inch bar onto.I know STIHL is made in Virginia, but some say Germany,so I am confused there. Is there any other saws still made in the states? Any help is appreciated...:chainsaw: ...

Thanks for the quick reply.STIHL as we all know is an awsome saw,but is there any other brands still made here..Thanks again..:monkey:

Thats interesting, never knew that. Not that I am complaining, but why would STIHL do that? Well I guess STIHL it is,and a model I would want is made in America.Just trying to keep jobs here, thanks for the Replys..

Hi there..I never lived in Dennisville, but have been through there a bunch of times.I would go to the Motorcycle Junkyard that used to be there looking for parts.Anyway, probably another person, but good observation...:chainsaw: ....

do you mean dirty dougie's motorcycle junk shop on 83?
technically thats clermont but really close by, anyway.

on subject:
sometimes buying american is difficult. you have merican companies making stuff overseas to sell here and you have foriegn companies making stuff over -here- to sell here.
more than a bit confusing if you ask me.

Yeah that was the one.Not there anymore, but he always had rare parts. So did you get smart and move out of this state..:).I havent gotton smart yet..:)....Yeah your right about the american companies, you never know.Just trying to do what I can, because if everyone tried just a little we would be in better shape.Either way,STIHL makes a great saw,and I am just going to be cutting firewood because I can't afford the home heating oil.The STIHL should hold up well, and parts are easy to find from what I understand. Thanks again....

hey rescue if you can if you want to keep it american made there are other options as well i agree with you 100 % on american made products as long as people try to keep there buying to a USA brand poor other countries wont have a foothold on our soils

you have got i believe three choices find a Stihl made in VA plant or another option is to get a Efco chainsaw which is made in ireland at least it is not n china

and has a 5 year warranty for Home owners and the third option would be to find a good used Homelite that dates back to the 80s early 90s and then make sure the parts are still around if needing any a good solution would be to get a SXLAO which most the parts are NLA by the factory but you have people that are dealers that still have the parts available for these units i know of three of us that go to this forum that are as that and we do work together cause i believe if we can put china back in china the economy may just start getting better for everyone

nice to meet you by the way

my name is calvin

aka lawnmowertech

i happen to have 2 brand new cylinders for the sxlao and 6 pistons for them so thats a good info to know in searching for a good saw

oh i also notice the nickname Rescue1 that name tells me you must be a EMT well i happen to be one myself been running volunteer status since high school which was in 87 became on ems in 88

You just described the MS361 - and the ones sold in the US are made in the US, with some German made parts in the mix.

Most other saws made in the US are made at the Poulan factory, I believe. - and you surely don't want one of those.......

I may raise some flames here, but I don't worry too much about precisely where something came from - as long as it comes from somewhere that competes properly and produces quality products. So feel free to buy a European/German made saw - I am buying a Miller welder in exchange - that is what trade is all about. Stihl may be a German company, but they have invested in the US and have created jobs there, so whether you buy a (German) 660 or a (US) 361...doesn't matter.

Where it falls down is where you have countries banging out very low quality stuff and killing the market - I try and avoid that as much as I can. Sometimes it isn't possible to avoid, but I try.

Good point!

Don't forget ,when you buy a forign product like toyota instead of a ford.Your money goes over seas instead of in our economy.I now they have plants here, but it all about where the money ends up.That's why the euro is kicking our but right now. When china takes hold we will really be in troble:dizzy:

Over here, most of the cost of a car is tax anyway - GRRRRRRRR :censored:

it doesn't matter if you support china or not because our government borrows a billion a day from China, look it up. As for buying a ford, and not supporting toyota. regardless of what car you buy its parts are made throughout the world.Just like most products. The products shipped from other countries pay tariffs. America needs a scientific revolution. Any way if you buy a ford especially a hybrid, too bad there using Toyota's synergy drive. Buying products from other countries still supports are economy and helps its. It keeps prices at bay too just imagine what would happen if there was no foreign competition. American companies would have a monopoly on the market and could charge you what ever they feel like.

Just have to add, that lots of older Stihl and Husky models are still made in America, but that is South America, more precisely Brazil..........

I dissagree.Buying forign oil didn't keep prices at bay and neither will buying forign products IT WILL CATCH UP TO YOU SOMEDAY.Remember that next time you drive that forign car. It's destroying are economy.Just look at the direction we are going in right now. It's not going to be pretty.:chainsaw:
