I have a 166 sacks that was working great, until *&%$*"*&%. Now I need a Piston, rings and a cylinder. Does anyone know where I can get one? Ben

Welcome first off.

While you are searching for parts. You might as well search for the seals too. You need to fix the parts that caused the other parts to fail. Air leak?

You will have to try and save the cylinder. I hear that aftermarket pistons are out there...but don't take that as gospel...do a search, you should find some info.

Pretty much you are looking for a needle in a haystack...rare saws and parts are hard to come by. I do not think Dolmar has any parts still available for that saw.

Welcome to the site, and good luck!

Josh

Not to be a smart as* but isn't it Sachs. Not sacks?! I had an ole snowmobile that was a Sachs.

Finding a cylinder is going to be hard. I got an aftermarket piston off ebay but it does not look right. I have 2-166's now and have been gathering all the parts I can find. Nice saw but many parts are no longer available. Don't toss your saw. You can sell yours for parts to get a start on a new saw if you have no luck rebuilding yours. Good luck.

Was that necessary?

Cry me a river, I was just thinking the name was the same of the snowmobile manufacturer. I interperted something different from the thread title and threw me for a loop.

How about some mix and match between brands - I read something about that recently about the big un's, but don't remember where - or excactly what it was about.....

If you put a 3120 topend on a 166 it will be very very fast. you need a spacer plate for the bottom of the cylinder.

can't you put a 166 cylinder on an 090-and it will have crazy amounts of power?? just heard that so take it for what it is worth

If you put an 090 cylinder bigest bore Stihl made on a 166 longest stroke sachs made it makes a wild hotsaw too.

I think this has what you are looking 166 parts saw.

yep EJ has experimented with the interchangeable barrels. You could contact him thru the link that 24d posted

I think it would take quite a bit of work and a big carb but could be a fun project. You would have to restore the saw first. I am not 100 pecent sure but I think the 090 was and the biggest bore (2.46") of any chainsaw and the Sachs stroke was biggest (1.89) stroke I think. Those hybrids are over 8 cubic inch.

Whoa, sounds like some gearhead talk here. Remember, this is AS...better get back on track and start asking about how to sharpen your chain and which oil to use in your plastic cased saw :)

drjben, If you find a source for a piston assembly
I need one to. I have had my cylinder rechromed at US chrome, Nice job. I had bought an aftermarket piston on ebay and it is totaly wrong.
I contacted Wiseco pistons on having some made
but there is a 24 minimum order at approx $125.00 each. I don't have $3000.00 to invest in
pistons right now. I have emailed several aftermarket companys and have not found anyone that makes a piston for the 166 Sachs Dolmar. I have 6 of these saws and would like to have a couple spare pistons as well.
