When I was little my gandma used to tell me a nursery rhyme in Finnish. Kooka poota kata cuna mitta lemiita. Any idea?

Sounds archaic, that's all I can say.. I'm guessing it: "Kuka puuta kaataa / kuni mitään lämmittää?" The one who falls the trees, is able to heat up anything at all.

Sorry didn't see your reply until just now.

There was also (tanslated) something about the kitten stirs the oatmeal....

Like you said, archaic. This version of whatever it is came with my grandma's mother from Finland in about 1917. I would love to know the rest of this poem. My dad's sisters may still know it.

Here's a question for you. Bear with me on this one. I will try to spell what I remember phonetically.

I'm not sure about a song, but they talk about the "Heikki Lunta Snow Dance" in the U.P. of Michigan quite often.

Alright, now I know Heikki Lunta Snow Dance Song. Great! Never heard of him before. There's an old folks belief connecting Heikki and winter. It is said that on St. Henrik's day January 19th, Heikki will break off the winter's backbone. If you listen very carefully, you're supposed to hear the snap. But as far as I know there's no song about it.

I bucked it twice and it's still too short.
