026 rim sprocket and bar swap with 036 pro

Yep I bought the 036 I have in 1990 or so, new, and it came with standard spline and etc. Don't know about any earlier years....

Cutting tree stumps off at ground level chain stretches and goes dull very quickly

Yes I've done this and dirt near the ground is the culprit for dulling chains. I don't have any idea what a "seater tree" is, but any species will have the same problem. By the way, just because you don't see any dirt or sand, it will be stuck in the bark and will also be down inside the wood...

    Replacing flippy cap

The fuel-tank cap on my 441 is bad, first time I've had one go bad. Are these Stihl caps all the same across the models?

Almost every chainsaw I own leaks plenty of bar oil every time I move it.

My saws are Stihls, all leak oil when sitting. Even my Greenworks electric leaks. Someone gave me a pack of puppy-training pads and Dollar Store got me some baking pans of various sizes. I stick a pad in a baking pan for each saw. They still leak. But I no longer have oil-soaked cardboard and...

    Battery saws and big wood

This is a Greenworks I saw at Costco on sale last month and decided to get it and see what was what. Can always return with Costco. Had never heard of that brand, but turns out so far the saw is doing a good job. Time will tell whether it holds up. Brother-in-law has a Greenworks he's been using...

    Battery saws and big wood

I have a battery saw and am using it regularly now, along with a 441 and 026. The battery saw is being used as much as the two gas saws together. Mine has an 18" bar. I am cutting up 9-12" trunks at present. I can run about 40 minutes or so on one battery [80 v, 4 amp hr] Just for the heck of...

People don't yet take battery operated chainsaws seriously.

Just purchased a Greenworks chainsaw from a sale at Costco and have used it twice. I got both the 4 amp hr and 2 amp hr batteries and have tried both. I dropped two 12" diameter trees, limbed and cut to stove length, then limbed three other trees wind had dropped for me. The saw did very well...

    Stihl MS 441 ??

My 441 is my favorite saw. Ever. That includes the venerable 036 Pro. I don't really know why they get a bad rap, and don't care. Mine has been great. Comfortable to run, good fuel "mileage," smooth running. I've had it since its early days, never an issue. Easiest saw to start I've ever had...

Your thoughts on square filed chains.

The dirty stuff is no good for square-ground chain. Well, not for any chain, but square will dull quickly. When I bought my first chainsaw, way back in the 70s, the guy at the store who sold it to me said I would be happiest with square-ground chain. So, not knowing anything, I bought a few...

    chainsaw storage (leaky bar oil)

I went to a dollar store of some sort and grabbed some cheap cookie sheet pans. A few different sizes for large/med/small saws. We had recently had a puppy and had part of a bundle of those pee pads left over. I cut them to size and fit them into the cookie pans. Every once in a while I toss...

People don't yet take battery operated chainsaws seriously.

Yes, I have tried to avoid snow. Fallen limbs and stones slippery beneath the surface. However, now I am beginning to budge a little. I choose trees to fell that have less snow around the base and still give me an escape path as they fall. I also have steep terrain here, and cutting in snow/ice...

People don't yet take battery operated chainsaws seriously.

I have my stable of gas saws, and this year they've been mostly quiet. I cut all our firewood from the woods, and wood stoves are all the heat source we have. However, due to an ongoing drought and severe fire danger in our county for months at a time, outdoor fires and other things such...

    Stihl 036 or 036 Pro?

Still have the 036 Pro I bought new half a lifetime ago. From what I recall about the differences, you now have a Pro.

    Is the website "www.stihl-usa.online" legit.

stihlusa.com Never heard of the site you found, scam or non-approved business I'd expect.

Looking for a decent Chainsaw sharpener?

Hand filed for many years, taking my chains to a shop once a year to even up the cutters. Then the guy at my shop seemed to get really burned out on the whole shop/dealer thing and would take two weeks or more to sharpen even one chain. I'd go in, he'd be smoking a cigarette and drinking coffee...

    Bench grinder sharpening dilema

Either ignore the tooth that's shorter or mark it with a marker pen and hit it with a hand file at the end of the grinder use. I usually just ignore the shorter one. But the hand-file operation take just a couple minutes, including picking up the file.

Jesus Christ, the 500i cuts like sh1t

Some years ago, I was at my Stihl dealer's place, one-man shop, chatting with him about whatever. I needed something and he was looking it up in a catalogue. In walk a woman and her high-school-aged son and they plopped a saw on the counter and the diatribe began. "You sold us this saw and it is...
