    Crown Royal Stove

Yup, My recommendation would be a HeatMaster SS rather than the Crown Royal

    Heating with hay?

My Dad and I burn 60lb square bales in our outdoor boilers on occasion. A bale will last 6-8 hours depending on the outdoor temp. It's a good way to get rid of weedy or rained on hay. The smoke is pretty nasty on the 1st couple burn cycles

How many Farms on AS? answer the poll.

We live on 200 acres that my Grandparents bought in 1959. The acreage is split pretty even between open ground and northern hardwoods. The dairy cattle were sold before I came along and we got rid of the beef herd in 99. Don't miss having cattle a bit. Between our place and some other ground...

    penetrating oil?

Rust Reaper is the best stuff I've found. A small amount goes a long way so don't let the price scare you off. The stuff works and smells good too www.rustreaper.com

    What?Change what Oil!

My processor has a 25hp Honda that I change the oil and filter on every 50 hours +- I change the oil in the 5.5 Honda on the elevator at the same time. I think the manual suggests 100 hours.

    Trying to decide on OWB

I usually completely fill it around 6PM with hardwood. Sometime the next morning I'll stir it up and maybe throw in a few chunks of basswood. It's not always necessary though. That's heating my 1,200 sqft house to around 82 degrees and burning green wood. I don't find much difference between...

    Strange Wood Scrounge Experience

In Michigan road right of ways are only that. The landowner still owns the land and what's on it.

    hydraulic hose cost

I finally had enough of buying custom hoses and bought my own press. I watched Ebay and got a good used one in the state that I picked up. There's an excellent hydraulic supply house near me that has super prices on hose and fittings when you buy in bulk. I haven't found supplies online any...

    Gas cans

I prefer a 1 gallon windshield washer fluid jug. If it gets crushed by a tree, skidder etc I'm not out anything but what was in the jug :) It gets filled from a Chilton five gallon jug that stays in the truck

    Interesting article

If you've burned bales of hay in an OWB you know what a stinky smokey fog it'll produce the first couple cycles. I don't often burn it but it's a good way to get rid of rained on hay and a 60lb bale typically burns about 8 hours. I also wait until the wind is blowing towards the house...

    My Firewood Operation

They're a conveyor of sorts designed to run in a concrete trough/channel to remove manure from barns. They've been adapted to sawmills for waste removal. Pendu, Patz, and Jamesway are some manufacturers http://www.patzag.com/products/ag-line/manure-handling-equipment/barn-cleaners/

    My Firewood Operation

My plan is to put it under a roof on a slab with a gutter and barn cleaner to remove the debris and sawdust. I got a barn cleaner at a sale last spring. Maybe this summer I'll get it done. Dad doesn't complain as long I'm getting snowed on too:)

How much $$$ do you save by burning wood?

I've never heated with anything but wood so my budget doesn't even have a place for heating costs. I do know that I'd have a major lifestyle change if I had to use fossil fuels to stay warm:(

    My Firewood Operation

Thanks for the compliments guys:) :) I bought the processor a little over two years ago. I haven't advertised any wood for over a year and the machines never sit idle for long and earn their keep. Firewood production is really a pleasure now. We also have 3 OWBs on the farm and this sure...

    My Firewood Operation

Here's some pics of my firewood operation. It consists of a 14-12 Block Buster processor, 24' Built Rite conveyor, 1997 753 Bobcat, a just aquired 84 1 ton Chevy 4X4 dump, and not pictured is a 12X7 dump trailer that I pull with my Dodge Cummins 4X4. With Dad running the processor and me the...

    Who Heats with Wood ?

Went from a Crown Royal to a Heatmaster SS OWB a couple weeks ago as part of a warranty replacement. Long story there. I don't care to ever have any kind of a wood burner in my house again My Dad and Grandma both have Heatmors.
