    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Haven't been on here for ages! I've got an 075 with a dodgy oiler, and I can't work out how it is meant to work - can someone with an 075 (or 076 I assume) manual please send me a copy? Thanks in advance

Stihl MS880 runs at high idle then dies.

Fuel tanks do pressurise, but this should not be causing a high idle. If anything, it should be flooding the saw out. Check the tank breather, it might be blocked. Some modern units do deliberately pressurise the tank (MS192, KM130 that I know of), I haven't torn into an 880 to see if it is...

Stihl MS880 runs at high idle then dies.

Throttle plate in back to front? It has a bevel...if back to front it doesn't seal properly. If there are no leaks, the the only way for air to get in (and cause the high idle) is either because: - the throttle is not closing: rod bent, as above - plate in back to front - plate bent

    Clutch Removal

An impact gun will work fine, but be gentle. Have the impact on its lowest setting. If you go in with it "turned up to 11", then there is a chance you will break something. Some will say the risk is higher using an impact gun, but you can bust up the ports with the rope trick, and you can...

Stihl MS880 runs at high idle then dies.

Lots of good advice here. If pressure and vac test are good, then check fuel delivery. The other thing is that when you tune it, follow a few rules. 1) If the carb doesn't respond as you would expect, something is wrong. The saw should precisely match what you are doing - so a 1/4...

    044 Lean Seize

Intake side of the cylinder is fine, looks like it has done a fair mileage, but fine. The carb is clean, filters all clear. The only thing worth noting is that the H screw was half a turn out. I would expect it to be at least a turn - I reckon this has been on the edge for a while.

    044 Lean Seize

A friend asked me to look at his 044. The symptoms were failure to start (or even cough) from cold. Compression felt weak, and this was confirmed with a test: 110 psi. Looking at the piston though the exhaust port, it didn't seem that bad, but given the pressure readings, the cylinder had...

    Firewood Saws and Comparisons

It depends entirely on how you cut firewood. A 260 with a 14" bar can be a good firewood saw for some people, but I can build a perfectly good case for an 090 with a 36" bar. Starting with the smallest. 1) 260 - if you tend to have to deal with small to midsized trees that are blow...

    Stihl Contra Pistons

Yup, rings and clips. Rings are the proper thick ones, not the 070 thin ones.

    Stihl Contra Pistons

Links don't work? Have I messed up the new fangled attachment system? I go away for a few months and the whole place has changed! I think I uploaded them, and they are displaying for me. I have messed around with the post, do they work now?

    Stihl Contra Pistons

Yes, he ships to UK quickly from Germany. One of his 1106 ignitions was DOA, and he is shipping me another one, no problem. Recommended.

    Stihl Contra Pistons

Your wish is my command....:glasses-cool: Here is a side by side comparison. On the right is an OE Stihl piston. OE certainly wins on box quality.... Close up side on: The replica has a ribbed finish like an 070 piston, the OE one is perfectly smooth. The good news is...

    Stihl Contra Pistons

I'll bring this thread back to life with some good news - you can get Contra pistons again. There is a guy on eBay in Germany (Sagenspezi) who has had a batch made and is selling them for 20 EUR. I've got one, and comparing it to an NOS Stihl one, it seems very good. I haven't installed...

    interesting copy

I remember my father bought a cheap Japanese brush cutter in the 70s. It was an utter piece of rubbish, zero quality, hard to start, heavy. 40 years later, "Made in Japan" sits there with "Made in Germany" for quality - in fact Japan makes a lot of higher quality stuff than Germany. Honda...

    Chimney cleaning

Why do you plan on cleaning liners from the top? I always clean mine (6" and 7") with the right size poly brush and a set of flexible nylon rods from the bottom. You either do it from inside the stove, or through the access panel that should be in the pipe between the stove and chimney...

    Is it illegal....

There is a big difference between what you do "in the workplace" and what you do privately. Nothing illegal about using a top handle privately in whatever way you want. Lots of problems using anything (including a top handle) in the workplace. You need to go on a training course to use...

What to stock the shop with?? line, rope, etc...

Spare saws. If you want to cut and something breaks, just pick up the spare and carry on. Fix at your leisure.

    Cleaning chains

I have to ask...why do you clean chains? I get chains all gooped up with sap, but the files don't mind as I sharpen them, they cut just as well and I don't think the saw really cares either. If you have a claggy chain, the next run through wood will clean it off, and then probably add new...
