Houston: Short Section of Timber ~ 8Hx10Wx16L

Ted, Thank you for the offer. She is trying to make the piece of railroad tie work (smell of creosote is quite strong, but sealing may help). I may get back with you later. Regards, Ted

Houston: Short Section of Timber ~ 8Hx10Wx16L

Hello, I have been MIA on this forum for awhile because of moving to Houston, going back to school, etc. My Logosol Woodworkers Mill is with my Dad in Michigan, so I have not been doing much milling (). I have a neighbor who is an artist and needs a section of timber about 8" x 10" x...

    Logosol M7 help needed

I had a similar problem with my WWM with Husky 385XP, which turned out to be the bar was not parallel to the guide rail. Place a very straight 1x2 on the bar parallel to the guide rail. Now stand between the log ramps and compare the 1x2 to the guide rail. If they are not parallel I would bet...

Broke first chain; could it be....

Have you checked to confirm that the bar is parallel to the guide rail? Take a straight 3/4" thick stick about 3-4' long and place it on the bar parallel to the log and guide rail. Now stand back at the log ramp side and look at the stick. It should be perfectly parallel to the guide rail...

    My Tablesaw/Bandsaw Resawing jig

Brad, The problem you described - the blade pulling away - is called drift. You will need to incorporate a way for your jig to put the piece through the blade at an angle. The easiest way to determine the drift angle (different for each blade) is to draw a line down the center of a 1" x...

    Sawmills 101

You might want to check out the Logosol products as well (http://www.logosol.com). I started with the Timberjig (like an Alaskan), but upgraded to the Woodworkers Mill after about 1 year because bending over on my knees and having to push the saw through the log got really old. With the WWM...

Baileys LP chain broke on first day!

This misalignment could have been the cause. I had this problem on with my Logosol Woodworkers Mill and Husky 385XP. It turns out that the mill was not the problem, rather it was the as-cast clutch cover. The outer as-cast surface of the clutch cover was not parallel to the inner machined...

Magnolia wood--- whats it good for?

Free wood is still free wood. You'll find things to make out of it, even if it isnt furniture quality. I milled up some box elder by mistake (didnt know what it was), and ended up using all of it for brackets to hold things in he garage, and for small things in the shop. It feels great not...

    Best chain for milling

Rodney, Thanks for the reminder. I have a dedicated rim sprocket for the 36" 3/8 chain. Another point to mention is that a set of chains and a sprocket should be worn together and then replaced together. Running a new chain on an old sprocket will stretch the new chain and make it more...

    Best chain for milling

Glenn, I am running an 85cc Husky 385XP. The have only broken a couple of chains, but they were very worn, and I had some mill tuning issue that caused the bar tip to dive progressively with the cut. I believe this was the reason for the breakage. Since correcting this problem I have not...

    Best chain for milling

I have mainly used low profile chain (Stihl 63PMX) and have been pleased, though the bar length with this chain is 25 inches. I also have a 36 inch bar with 3/8" chain and the speed difference is remarkable, even when you discount the speed difference due to the longer bar. Low profile chain...

Milled Some Lumber After Long Hiatus

Woodshop, That was my dad's doing - not sure if my mother saw that yet, though I can say for certain she wasn't pleased. This is in the basement however, so it's not the same as the wood being stacked in living room (we sawmillers would like that though !). Ted

Milled Some Lumber After Long Hiatus

Most of it is ash, with a couple of walnut and spruce boards. This is my dad's lumber, he will make furniture projects out of it. Ted

Milled Some Lumber After Long Hiatus

My mill has been at my dad's in Michigan since I moved to Texas 1-1/2 years ago. It was cold (20F and windy), but fun. I don't have a video of my milling setup (Logosol Woodworkers Mill with Husky 385XP, 16" bar with Stihl low profile ripping chain), but there is one on Youtube...

You won't be disappointed. I own a Woodworkers Mill and love it. Ted

Curious Chain and Bar temps while milling

Bob, Interesting...you must be an engineer. The heat transfer path is likely from the chain through the oil and into the bar where it is dissipated into the wood on both sides. I think your suspicion is correct - the high temperature is a skin temperature. The temperature gradient must...

    Box elder use ideas?????

I cut some of that once and used most of it for jigs and wall hanging fixtures in the garage. It stinks when you cut it - I've heard it called "poopwood." Ted

    Used, Woodworker's Mill today

Trigger-Time, Yup on the 16" and 24" bars. I use regular 3/8" chain on the 36" bar. The PMX chain (from Logosol) has performed very well. I've thought of using Woodsman Pro ripping chain from Baileys, but havent yet. Ted

    Used, Woodworker's Mill today

TriggerTime, Nice to see another Logosol owner. I have a WWM also and love it. The boards it makes are very consistent and using it is much easier on the body compared to a TimberJig or Alaskan mill where you have to push the saw and/or you are bent over. Ted
