    Pruning Young American Beech

    agree on leaving the lower branches. it really does make a difference on trunk thickness and improving tree growth. we have a rule in our arboretum about keeping lower limbs (temporary branches). once the tree gets larger and more established, starting removing one or two a season.

    true, but according to the article, the gm trees do it at a much faster rate in their lab tests. the gm trees removed 91% of the toxin while the control only removed 3%.

    doesn't wind do this? i have noticed this in colorado when going up a ski lift and you see dead trees where the bark is completely gone and the tree is spiraled. i just assumed wind.

    i know around here, ponds get green like that from too much phosphorous from all the chicken house run-off. does look like something you would find an alligator swimming in. yikes!

    i see the limb in question. you could remove that top one to the left if you wish, but i bet with time as the limb gets heavier with foliage it will train itself to weep more? lovely tree. I wish we could grow those here.

    This appears to be some sort of canker to me, but I wanted to get others opinions. I have researched that Koelreuteria paniculata is suseptible to a canker.
