    Lean 372 help please

Grab that crank and wiggle. Visually inspect the throttle cable and linkage to make sure it’s engaging and releasing properly. Plug the decomp and redo your test. The plugs are available online and are handy to have around.

    Stihl (1993) 039 hard to start-floods

Yep. Carb rebuild with a close look at the needle seat area. Upgrade the fuel filter and check the fuel and impulse lines for cracks. In my experience, saws that are hard to start typically require some fuel system maintenance.

Echo CS-590- Strange noise when idling

Recoil interference, maybe. Spring, pawls, etc. Probably “fine.”

Picked up a Stihl 036 pro - need some help...

The air filter cover is available used and aftermarket. The AM plastics for this series are ok. They do not come with the carb screw grommet so don’t lose it. They’re ms360 copies and I’ve used a half dozen or so.

Picked up a Stihl 036 pro - need some help...

Tough to say from the pics. Sometimes the clutch spider can break. On high-use saws the springs can wallow out their holes and cause issues. I’d remove that clutch and closely inspect everything. Replace the springs with OEM. Check that oil line for breaks and grab that crank and wiggle it...

    Ms460 project :)

    That’s Stihl’s non-shielded plastic caged proprietary bearing.

    Refreshing an old Stihl 038AV

038 lines should still be available from your dealer or eBay. Don’t use aftermarket lines. The 1119 series saws Ive been into usually need a new airfilter. Again, OEM only on that part.

371XP Salvage Project - Is is wise to save with aftermarket parts?

That should clean up, yes. Take your time sanding it off. There are vids around showing a couple ways to remove the aluminum transfer.

    Stihl MS650 Thoughts

Wiggle the crankshaft, pull the muffler.

Is this a fair price for an iron and oak 22 ton?

Iron and Oak splitters (Brave as well) are made to last. The engine isn’t a Honda but if it runs without a problem, that unit will split a ton of wood. Pandemic pricing and availability of new splitters could be a concern. Offer $700ish and see if they’ll come down. I own a horizontal Iron and...

371XP Salvage Project - Is is wise to save with aftermarket parts?

The SR will definitely have water this year. I’m hoping the smaller streams up there are fishable in October. OEM for moving parts as mentioned above. Used 371/372 parts are getting tough to find up here… I’m always looking, though.

    Farmertec G372XP. Few questions.

Agreed. Unfortunately my husky dealer has 372s priced around $1000 now. Not sure on the bar/chain combo but the price jump happened within the last three months.

Dolmar 421 crank seal, bearing removal

Ahh, yep. I was wondering if it was analogous to Stihl’s 271 saws. It looks like it’ll need to be split as mentioned above. Is that seal leaking for sure? Is the bearing shot? Interesting design… not a fan of not apparently not being able to remove and install a seal without a case split...

Dolmar 421 crank seal, bearing removal

Modified clamshell design? I haven’t been into one, yet.

    Stihl MS291 Strange Problem

If not the cover, it could be the crankshaft itself. We had one go in an 1127 series and it made the same sound you’re describing. Main bearings were tight.

    Ms 361 flywheel. Confused.

    The flywheel looks ok.

    066 drives me nuts

Is your tank the 660 style or an earlier 1122? There were several variations of the tank and air box through the runs of this series. I’ve done a few 064-660 conversions using AM plastics to save cost (and use the clear fuel tank… which I like). It works if you use everything “660” from the...

    066 drives me nuts

Yep. I took a file to one of them and corrected the fit. Annoying for sure. The other one was perfect. The 1128 series AM plastics are even worse.

    Ms 361 flywheel. Confused.

I’ve had an 1135 coil fail before. If you determine that the coil is the cause, look around for a used OEM coil. It’s unlikely (but not impossible) that the flywheel is bad.
