    over confident and careless

^ I think many could share a close call like that i know that its happened to me as well whilst being too relaxed/complacent in the tree. Sorry to hear you suffered the consequences Jim, best wishes.

    Multi Tip cutter system

^ thats a fairpoint. I'm told that with multi tip you don't need to run every tooth sharp. The staggered positions mean that many of the teeth are raking out grindings, only the lead teeth need to be sharp. I'll most likely continue with the greenteeth for the present

How do you guys bid on apartment complex's?

Did one last week for a large complex and told the manager it will be a time based rate next time. Was a pain in the ass, cars parked under trees throughout, some aggressive/uncooperative residents & some requests for special details etc not in the scope which burned a lot of time on something...

How do you guys bid on apartment complex's?

I reserve time based rates for bids where the scope is difficult to put onto paper, like many, many small items or uncertain clients and most recently all hedge trimming once its more than half a day. A property management company can throw a lot of work at you once you get on board but the...

1993 Bandit 250 anvil to knife clearance issue - new knife and new anvil - too tight

Hi Erwin, Just curious how the Makita sharpener is working for you? Was it recommended by someone else using it for chipper knives?

    Unprofessional ?

I ****in hate big mouth customers that try to act righteous about prices: its not compulsory to like a price- take it or leave it and and shut up already. Sad thing about tree work is that its so irregular in scope- its not easy to bid accurate.

How to? Install a pull rope without a crotch

I'd say he uses the red pole (extendable) in the pic above, I have one and thats what we use, it has multiple attachments including a hook (with an s bend catching and pushing a rope). We also just shoot a line through the head and bowline it.

    Groundmen say the darnedest things.

I don't recall mentioning stubs, if something is hung up on a stub then that's obviously the climbers fault.I don't actually consider myself a "climber", more so, a tree worker. Your handle indicates that you see some demarcation between climbers and groundies, that, for the most part, doesn't...

    Groundmen say the darnedest things.

Me: theres a hung up branch, you'll need the hook to pull it out Groundy: it looks stuck I dont think it will come out Me: just do what you gotta do branch comes down fine Groundy: it would be easier if you could make sure they dont get hung up Me: I'll do what i can but its harder up here than...

James the Narcoleptic Tree Cutter-the link

This was the Youtube description of the video posted at top of this page We take a big tree down, and it hit our house. There isn't a lot of damage really, was still a lot cheaper doing it ourselves. The one quote we got was about $4000. Logs from this tree were sent to a friend with a lumber...

What kind of professional do I need for this situation?

^ will you try to diffuse it before kaboom? Jokes aside, that sounds like a better option considering it should be free of charge

Business expansion... what shoud I buy, do I really need it?

apart from being time consuming the micro chippers also consume a lot of effort to feed, you have to manually push all the material thru. I work out of a trailer regularly and we slash all the brush down once trimmed and loaded inside the trailer, slashing it down to mulch. Its not fun but it works.

Why would you want to be a climber

Contract climbers in Sydney charge around $600 per day whilst contract groundies charge around $200, so a wage based climber should still be on double the groundy. Sounds like a rip
