Who has put a hoist/crane on their pickup?

So after reading your post again, taking the bed off and putting a steel plate to stiffen it doesn't sound like that bad of an idea either. Decisions, decisions....

Who has put a hoist/crane on their pickup?

Gemnii, that's a great idea, but I don't know if the legs on the sides of the hitch are completely necessary unless you're putting some BIG things in the bed. A standard hitch receiver--I don't know the class ratings, but a 2" square receiver, should take at least 1000 lbs on it. The weak part...

Who has put a hoist/crane on their pickup?

The bed of my truck aint pretty. I don't think anybody is worried about the LOOK of the dents so much as metal fatigue. Creases in metal lead to cracks, etc. The hoist would HAVE to be bolted to the frame. As for a trailer, that's a lot more than I want to deal with--many of the logs I'm...

Who has put a hoist/crane on their pickup?

That's kinda what I was afraid of. The body of my F250HD flexes a fair bit with a heavy load in it. I don't want to bend the bed up with the first really heavy log. I'm thinking the hitch/drop-down thing could work out alright for what I need it for. I just might have to make my own though.

Who has put a hoist/crane on their pickup?

Hey folks. Its been a while since I've posted here. I got a new-to-me log-getter pickup, a '96 Ford F250 4x4 powerstroke, with about 2000lbs capacity in the bed, even though its got a 3/4 ton rating. DMV has it rated at 10,000 GVWR, axles are rated for 10700. Long story short, I'm...

    Swap meet...

I took these pics before drilling some much larger holes through the perforated "cube" baffle directly over the exhaust port. Also, because I couldn't remove the "U" shape baffle safely without totally screwing up the side of the muffler, I just drilled a couple holes around it. I need to...

    Swap meet...

The muffler is okay; just not great. I kinda buggered the outlet modding it but I can fix it well enough I suppose; I just don't have the equip. to braze; I have a stick welder but I think I'd toast it with that even on the lowest amperage setting. It is the one with the big "U" baffle inside...

    Swap meet...

Still looking for a Stihl 084 chainbrake handle. And a muffler if anyone is willing to sell. I have a Husky mount 42" Power Match bar that has seen less than 10 cuts total, slabbing on an alaskan mill. Just enough to mar the paint a bit. The tip is drilled to accept an auxiliary oiler...

    gluing a chainbrake handle?

That's the kind of repair job I like to hear about. The break is down low on the right side near the muffler outlet; lots of stress on that point. I like your sheetmetal idea. Thanks!!

    gluing a chainbrake handle?

Because, like I said, the part is not available. It's an old saw. Not made anymore.

    Swap meet...

Looking for a chainbrake handle for a Stihl 084. I modded my muffler and the pipe was angled a bit too much towards the chainbrake. Muffler outlet fixed, now I need a new chainbrake handle. Can't get it from the dealer, and this saw needs a chainbrake. I was a bit to hasty and waited to braze...

The made in north america Old Magnesium Swap Meet.

Yup. I was a bit to hasty and waited to braze the outlet--I wanted to use it then instead of waiting. Not smart.

    gluing a chainbrake handle?

My Stihl 084AV has a broken chainbrake. I modded my muffler and the exhaust melted the brake handle enough to render it useless. There's enough left to manually actuate it, but it isn't going to stop as it should with inertia without the mass of the handle behind it. I know there is a glue...

    What ripping chain??

Milling is super heavy duty work for a small chainsaw. De-tune your saw, meaning lower the max rpm 500-1000 rpm or so, and let it idle for a few minutes after each cut to let it cool. Any ripping chain will work fine for your small project. Bailey's sells ripping chain by the drive link, so...
