    Can barely pull starter rope

did you fix this? What was the outcome?

MS460 starter rope grabs very abruptly

Did you ever fix this? my 461 is doing it. The guys who say "pull harder" don't know what they're talking about. It's ridiculous.

Saw fires & yanks starter handle out of my hand. Why?

The saw is firing early and running backwards.

    Stihl 461 kicking back

Because the handle either stops dead or more frequently pulls back, right out of your hand with incredible force. Feels like it's gonna break your finger. That thing hit my leg once and left a big bruise, even thru my insulated pants. The top of the saw has black marks on it from the rubber...

    Stihl 461 kicking back

Thank you for the reply. You are of course, correct. Question. Before I pull the flywheel, can I estimate TDC with a screwdriver in the plug hole and compare it with the flywheel position on the ignition module?

    Recoil broken 032

While we're on it, what's the deal with the Stihl strings? Mine's a bit frayed. It's got a rubber cushion and a plastic tab on the end where it goes into the pull handle. Do I have to buy a Stihl string with that tab on the end? I'd like to keep the saw stock.

    Recoil broken 032

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks!

    Recoil broken 032

So the recoil on my 032 went limp. I checked the spring and it's fine. The pully doesn't engage the spring. Is there a part missing? I only have the pully. There are no dogs underneath . The DAMN ADS ARE SO BAD I CSNT SEE THE SCREEN! WTF

    Stihl 461 kicking back

It's still doing it. If the key is sheared off, wouldn't the flywheel be turning? I mean, I'd notice it when rotating it (cover off) with the chain brake set.

    Stihl 461 kicking back

Sorry if I used the wrong terminology. When I attempt to start the saw, she locks up and pulls the starter cable out of my hand. The saw is a few years old with VERY low hours. The decomp button pops up every pull. Those who have experienced this know it's NO FUN. TomJV

    Homelite 360 Oil Leak

UPDATE: Saw: Homelite 360, model year 1982 Running: Oregon full chisel chain and 20" Oregon bar, (long term setup) Symptom:Saw runs fine. Chain is dry and gets overheated. I took a look at the saw yesterday. Originally, we thought there was too much oil coming out. Now I wonder . . . The oil...

    Homelite 360 Oil Leak

.............................. Thank you for all the information! Sorry, we put the saw aside for a few weeks, but we're back on it now. Ser# 502590166 purchase date: 10/21/1982

    Homelite 360 Oil Leak

My dad's Homelite 360 is leaking bar oil. It doesn't pump oil, so the chain is running dry. When he puts the saw down, the oil is pouring out of the bar weep holes. He says there's no oil adjustment screw. Can the pump be replaced? What's involved? Where might we find one? Maybe it's a...

best bench grinder for sharpening chains?

I wanted to wake this thread for some up-to-date info. I'm a homeowner guy with a few saws and I want to get into grinding. I primarily run Oregon LGX chains on my workhorse saws. Price is a consideration, but I'm not overly concerned because I'll likely have the unit for the rest of my life...

    Stove vs Insert?

Should I get rid of my insert and install a free standing unit like Vermont Vigilant? I have a 2300 sq ft ranch here in Westchester, NY. I have the insert in the basement. It's a Lopi Revere. It's properly ducted up a masonry chimney. There's no door in the stairwell. I've had this setup...

    Oil Change

50hrs sounds good. I never timed my use. I should really get a clock. I split about 4 cords per year I guess. I'm a home guy and just do it 1/yr. 10-30 synthetic. I never did the hydraulic oil. My dads is over 40 years old and he never did it either. LOL. TomJV

    Oil Change

I wouldn't use it. Won't get the dregs IMHO. Definitely won't get metal files. TomJV

    Is this a cord?

Why would anyone buy wood anyway? I burn for heat. I get all my wood free. Even at that, I wonder sometimes what I'm saving, especially now that oil is cheap. There's all the equipment. There's my time. My back! LOL. Bottom line, I've been doing it my whole life, I ENJOY it and I save a few...
