    newbie

Beefy... welcome. I am amazed that you want to spend money on a new saw when you have those great toys and not so much time to play with them... Well, I ran a freebie Muchluc for about 5 years and it finally died (coil), so my wife and kids gave me a $400 "voucher" for a new saw. I went...

    PPE advice

Howdy all, I learned something from first hand experience that I wish I had known a month ago... I recently bought some chaps from Labonville (great store - great service! - they have a sponsered forum here) Well, being a home owner and not a proffessional, I figger'd I'd cheap out and...

How do you maintain your saws?

I just got a new MS250 - the dealer told me that I should run high test in all my small engines because of the additives "they" are adding to the gas these days and that fuel stabilizer does not work for as long now for the same reason. I asked about long term storage and he said "don't". Run...

Nice saw - it's a bigun. You only use the 310 when you have to reach up high, right? :)

This has to be one of the most enjoyable threads I've read yet. You fellers are great! When I get to 50 posts, I will rep you all! -bearsfeat _________________________ Arsenal: 28" bow saw (for exercise, right?) 16" eager beaver in pieces 18" MS250 VIRGIN - I will pop the cherry...

This is why you buy a decent Stihl (250) and NOT a POS saw.

Great Thread! Awesome encouragement for me - I just bought an MS250 yesterday! I was torn between that, the 270 and the 290... Really it was the dealer who gently guided me to the lower end 250 - based on my intended use. I think he was trying to save me money so I would spring for the...

    my dogs dont bite

Nice - very aggresive looking... but I was compelled to post a reply mostly because of your shop / bench shown in the background! I can't wait to show my wife!! "see honey, it's normal to do stuff like that. everyone else does it!" unless of course it really IS your shop and you just...

regrets - glad it wasn't me...

I came across this image... http://picasaweb.google.com/cbaxter/Random#5295033916418104930 They should have built the house a little stronger... Or maybe hired a professional to do the job. I would think that anyone with a saw that big should know what they are doing. Wonder what the...

    my birthday present!

I will be heating with wood ~75% - burning 3-4 cord per year with less than half of that delivered cut and split. I will be scrounging about 2+ cord per year from falls, neighbors, friends and roadside stuff. (and I live across the street from a golf course...) So, this saw will not be used...

    my birthday present!

wow - thanks for the great support... I am encouraged by the suggestions - both blatent and sublime... Although my step brother is a Stihl guy and my best friend is a Husky guy, I am not yet swayed...(although if Subaru made a saw, I would be hooked) That said, I did do a little askin'...

    my birthday present!

Well, I am 39 tomorrow - for the first time... And I am sitting down after the kids are in bed tonight to share with you all a highlight of my terrific evening of dinner, cake and presents... I got a card with a $400 "credit" toward a chainsaw! A couple of catches, though. One is I gotta buy...

old question new user - which saw???

Wow, talk about instant gratification... Thanks for the replies. I will take the reco's and do a bit of research on the model #'s in a bit. Matt - good tip on the try-then-resell idea. I do a fair bit of that with computers and iPods... I never thought eBay would be a good venue for...

old question new user - which saw???

OK. I know this question is prolly asked every month, but I DID my due diligence and searched the archives for threads relating to this. The problem is that the search terms are too common. I couldn't wade through all the hits. If anyone knows of or remembers a thread on this, please merely...

    lil'house wood burner

here's another opinion with a question. Greetings, I read the site that was posted (thanks mga). I think the concept of an air-to-air system does have some advantages. It would be an ideal system for my house, since we already ave forced hot air. But, I agree with the posters whose...

    stove shop referral request

Greetings, I have a need for a bit of a custom stove install job. I need to talk with a guy (or gal) who know's what is out there for stoves and how I could get one in the space I have. It is one of those fancy fireplaces with glass doors on two sides. I want to put a stove in that space...

    Insulation for stainless flue liner

tag along... Well, I am considering the same thing for my planned install. I take the advice in this thread to heart and will not consider installing a liner without insulation. But, I have a question. How do I go about purchasing what I need? Sounds like a basic "geen ear" question -...

wanted - ideas for an "insert"

Hi folks, I really want to start burning again. We moved to a new house that has a fireplace :( (see photo). It is one of those fancy double sided ones with glass doors on the dining room and living room. Very nice in theory. But it sure does suck for utility (heat). And for whatever...

Need an Idea for Bar and Chain Oiler

You could maybe mount the oiler tank really close to muffler or another warm component and at least be sure to get a constant temp after the thing has been running a while. Or even install an engine block heater from JC Whitney right in the oiler tank for those really cold days... Then gravity...
