    Advice about first splitter purchase?

I would recommend the Northern tool or Tractor supply splitters- they both are built very well and would meet your budget. I bought the Northern Tool 30 ton and have been very pleased- had a issue and they responded very fast and are nice people to deal with. The Asheville store usually has one...

********WHAT AGE DID YOU FIRST START USING A CHAINSAW????

Age was 13 with a Homelite XL and supervised by Dad the first year and then I could run on my own. Really learned how to use a saw when I worked with a logging crew for a year after high school.

    Timberwolf Manual Lift

What about a horizontal/vertical splitter-I have split some 54" logs that weighed about 500#- I know it was to big, but it was me or the splitter. Those splitters are in the $2000 range.

    Needing wholesale Oak firewood

I bet approx 90% of businesses operate this way- as long as everyone gets their markup I see no problem. Plus delivery, stacking, getting and keeping a customer is alot of work too.

Took a trip to the ER today

I'm in the shoulda/coulda club too-got mine after a 6 inch light cut across my gut. The company I work for has 8000 acres in the NC mtns and they require all PPE if you are going to cut on their property.

What's the most impressive saw you've ever run?

Last Summer I had just gotten to sleep after working a third shift and I was awakened by a tree company clearing the powerline right of way with 8 346xps all revving up and down. It sounded like a bunch of giant bumbles bees going down the road. I got up and laughed and watched them for a while...

Do I need a bigger tractor to haul wood?

Thats not a tractor by any means- As long as you stay on flat ground - you should be OK. In our area- we wouldnt last a day pulling logs or firewood like that- be careful :)

    Insulating

As a builder-it sounds like a fair price. I would recommend the attic area be insulated above code-I did the same thing to our house in South Bend, IN and went from a 180k furnace to a 90k furnace and makes the house almost soundproof.

    Saw lifespan

Back in the 70s-early 80s, I worked on a logging crew in the Carolinas and most of the tree fellers used their saw for a year. They would sell their old saw to firewood users and buy a new one- they were paid on production and wanted a fresh saw every year.
