no it's under the "best sounding saw" thread. if i can figure out how to get the link into this thread i will. otherwise search for it. i don't know what happened to all those other pics. i can post another if you can't find it. or you can look at mike acres site under clinton saws, d-35. that...

Anybody ever heard of a Big Chief saw?

you are probably talking about a Clinton saw. i have a '59 D-35 that has a dark gold paint, and is called the Supercut. it has an indian in a headress on the right tank side, together with the word "Chief". part of the decal is missing, so it may have been "Bigchief" i've never seen any of them...

How to true up a bar?

if you have a table saw with a dado insert, mount a 6'' fine grinding wheel on it, and gently hand grind it using the side of the wheel. a sanding disc attachment will work as well, but i prefer the wheel. its easy, fast and if your saw is in rig, will square the rails up perfectly. been doin it...

    Tapered shaft to hydrolic pump'

there is enough shaft on a generator head to use. the taper fit shaft will have a center bolt holding it to the motor. the way to seperate it from the engine is you stand it pto end up and remove the bolt. you will see the end of the generator shaft is threaded. you find the correct bolt with...

    Presets

the only carlton/woodsman low profile chain i see on their site is .365 pitch. i don't see any presets listed for carlton, thats why i'm asking. are the pin diameters or lengths different?

    Something You Don't See Everyday...

with a chain drive i think yould need a very large rear sprocket to get the motor up on the pipe , or a jack shaft setup with the right gearing. thats why they use the friction drive. small rubber spindle driving a large bicycle tire.

    Best way to clean chain?

yes, it's the heat from milling that cooks the stuff on. you get it almost with any species. oven cleaner will take it all off. get original easy off, if you can. makes the chain look like new.

    Best way to clean chain?

easy off oven cleaner. spray on, wrap chain up in plastic grocery bag, let sit overnite. rinse off with water, oil it up after grinding. fast, easy.

Harbor Freight: proponents of safe saw use

you guys laughing at the framer for using a chainsaw simply don't know what your talking about. how many of you know it alls build houses for a living? a small saw is the best most efficient tool for cutting door and window openings. and if you really knew anything you would see that he is...

High or Low RPM Power Heads???

well you don't ''detune'' a saw for less rpms for milling. thats silly. you want to richen up the H for more fuel to keep the motor from frying. more fuel means more cooling effect on the piston. and if anybody thinks a 40 year old saw will mill as fast as a modern one of the same cc's, go ahead...

Just joined- thought I'd share a couple Pics...

monkeyman your rig is an accident waiting to happen. a 30'' blade spinning at 3600 rpm's has a rim speed of over 28,200 sfpm, or roughly 350 miles per hour. wobble and oscillation are serious concerns on an oversped blade. cracks can develop, and go unnoticed. large diameter blades are supposed...

    Outdoor Wood Boiler Disaster

i would modify it and make it an open system. or replace it with one. i've seen malfunctioning inside boilers blow houses apart. i saw a 40 gallon water heater with a stuck t&p go from the basement out through the roof. it ain't worth it, man.

    i am having problems milling

first thing check the bar rails. chances are they need grinding. i do mine freehand with a 6''x 3/4'' fine grit wheel mounted in my table saw. a couple very light passes is all you need. second make sure cutters are all sharpened to equal lengths and angles. also check that the bar groove is not...

My Poulan broke, big time. pic. inside

its not that the clutch is inboard or outboard, it's the shape of the drive sprocket. i use a poulan ''pro'', (yea, right) 42cc i got for cheap off ebeware for firewood. i gutted and opened up the muffler and tweaked it up and it is great for what i use it for. nice and light and good enough...

    White Oak

just curious why so many guys flat saw right through the log. especially with the oaks and other figured woods. you wind up with mostly vertical grain boards which are great for stability, but you lose all the ovals and cathedrals that makes oak so pretty. i made this mistake when i first...
