    Hydro pump question

it sure is easy to order the right pump, the right coupler, the right adaptor plate, and the right fittings from surpluscenter.com for sure I have used hydraulic tanks, hoses, and filter holders and even valves from farm equipment.

    hp vs psi vs flow

Let me try this again. You can use a relief valve, or an unloader valve. The relief valve is a LOT easier to plumb. We can do heat calcs for 300 psi wasted through a relief valve vs an unloader valve for the 3 percent of the time either is used, but whether it was a sunny day or a cloudy...

    hp vs psi vs flow

KevinJ, This is EXACTLY how all the two stage splitter pumps work. call it an unloader valve, call it a relief valve, call it whatever you want. you can maybe run it a little faster in high pressure mode with an unloader valve, but the plumbing is a lot tougher. A relief valve is a...

    hp vs psi vs flow

you can for sure use a relief valve to make a 2 stage pump. Take a dual pump. make one your high speed circuit, the other the pressure side. on the high speed side, use a relief valve to dump back to the tank. the relief is used so little it won't heat anything significant. I'm doing...

    hp vs psi vs flow

go do the math, but a 20 horse motor will only push about 10 gpm at 3000 psi. so, if you use a 20 gpm pump on a 20 horse engine, about 1500 psi, which is half the splitting pressure most splitters run. however, if you take your 20 horse engine, and buy the 30 gpm 2 stage pump, you will get...

    hp vs psi vs flow

compensated pumps are for closed center systems. really a bad idea to use a compensated pump on open center like log splitters are.

use a shear. sheer? hydraulic knife. go look in a sheet metal shop how they work. might consider a water jet.

1st post -- Special log splitter -- Need help

pay attention to the returns, and make it 1 inch or bigger on both the splitter side and drive side. you can T the splitter and drive system to the same return if you want.

he is using the motors, but not the hydrostatic pump. he is going to use a standard log splitter pump to run it all.

2 Way splitter design stage w/ Solid Works

I would think the splitfire is about the worst of all worlds. Go run a regular splitter for a while. With a traditional splitter, you run the lever with one hand, hold the wood with the other. Run the wedge in about 4 inches into the wood until it cracks, back it out. Ram moved 8 inches...

    Log Splitter Build Advice

the pump determines everything. the pump determines max pressure, how many GPM (gallons per minute). GPM divided by the size of the ram is the speed of things. Pressure combined with diameter of the ram determines splitter power. You want a 2 stage pump. with a 16 horsepower engine...

1st post -- Special log splitter -- Need help

on motors, there is something called a "case drain". Basically, fluid that "leaks" past the internal mechanisms gets drained off instead of building pressure inside the case and blowing out seals. sometimes the case drain is a separate line, sometimes it drains into whichever line is the...

460 and 660 work saws double build

leave it a little rough on the intake to create a decent boundary for best flow. on the exhaust, there are 3 factors towards smoothing it out. smoother means less surface area, which means less heat transfer into the aluminum. smoother means less carbon build up. smoother means less heat...

What does reducing RPM's effect on splitter ?

start a new thread, and you will get better results on the electric power question. in theory, according to a number of sources, you can safely double the electric horsepower ratings when comparing them to gasoline engines. pay attention to the motor rpm. there are a bunch of electric...

460 and 660 work saws double build

180 is huge, and is actually my goal. on the 346, i couldn't get anywhere close to that unless i was willing to shim the jug up. i wish i could figure out an efficient boost port on a piston port engine, but i suppose everyone else has the same wish!!! TW, thanks for posting this. I...

What does reducing RPM's effect on splitter ?

at 2400 rpm you will still have most of your horsepower, so splitting force will probablhy be close. mostly the splitter will go slower. it will go (15 seconds) times (( (3600 rpm) divided by (2400 rpm)) which means cycle time will be about 22 seconds.

    Hey Bookerdog

I would like to make the offer publicly. I made some mistakes, and I apologize for them. One of the mistakes was what I did to the equipment. Another mistake was to not communicate directly with Bookerdog. I was under the impression this issue had been resolved last summer, but a...

    Hey Bookerdog

Howdy, I did some work on a saw you own, or did own. When I did the work, I ground through the case on it. When I did that, I put some JB weld over the hole, cleaned it up a little, packaged it up, and mailed it off to a third party. There is a bunch of stuff in the middle, but gossip...
