    lets see them motorcycles

The Norton front disc was pretty weak. Chrome surface was too slick, master cylinder was too large (5/8) and hoses were flexy. I corrected all these and now have a good front brake. Gotta be a mechanic to own a British bike. BB

    Sweetgum or hickory

I don't find any of the gums to be good for firewood. But Black gum is especially useful just because it IS hard to split. Pioneers used to make wagon wheel hubs out of BG because it was so tough. Good stuff for that. BB

Yamaha TTR 225 no power under load

If it's like my '07, it has a vacuum operated, diaphragm slide throttle. Check that the diaphragm is intact and drill out the hole that sends the vacuum signal up top. Also be sure to gut the muffler out as suggested. Then get your jets sorted out. The pilot jet screw is EPA non adjustable...

What tree grows 90 degree limbs?

Yeah, I was going to say black gum. Very tough tree, 90 deg limbs. They used to make wagon wheel hubs out of black gum, will not split. BB

    What wood burns hottest?

I burn oaks, hickory, maple and dogwood. And by far dogwood puts out the most heat and for the longest time. It is hard as bone when it is dry. Good wood.

How do I secretly kill a tree?

I had to kill a stump to prevent second growth. I just drilled holes into it and filled with Roundup. Dead as a doornail. Not recommending anything, just sayin'. BB

    Cable Splicing Question:

Quote: Someone living on a lakefront with a dock can surely afford $250 ?? You can leave the other cable in place as a safety backup with slack with just wire clips as in #2. Thanks all! I think I will to as ArtB suggested and splice this cable and keep it in place as a slack back-up. Then...

    Cable Splicing Question:

I live on a lake and have a floating dock secured to the bank with 1/2" steel cables about 75 ft long. After 20 years, one cable has a rough spot near the winch where it bends around a 90 degree turn. Several strands are broken from rust combined with fatigue. I've got enough unused cable on...

    Axe restoration thread

I am putting a handle into a Kelly jersey style axehead that was abused as a wedge. The eye is buckled and swollen. What is the best way to fill the eye with the handle? Wooden wedge? Metal wedge? Epoxy, Bondo, linseed oil? I've seen pictures of perfectly filled eyes (several posts back)...

Help needed to salvage axe head

But this is a Kelly Works axe, not likely to find one at an auction cheap. Kellys are highly regarded as having good steel. Plus I found it on my property and it has some sentimental value. BB

Help needed to salvage axe head

I have a Kelly axehead that someone has evidently used as a splitting wedge, thus bulging the eye. Do ya'll have any suggestions for hammering or squeezing the eye closed a little bit to straighten it up? I'm afraid heating it to red hot will ruin the temper. Thanks, BB

Found a Kelly Works Axe, Questions:

I was reading on here recently a thread that got off onto axes, particularly Kelly axes. Several years ago I found an axhead in our woods and I hung it on a nail in my woodshed. I went out and looked and sure enough it is a Kelly. It says " Kelly Works", no other markings. I'll try to post...

    NEED ECHO HELP

I made one. Slipped a thin tube over a small screwdriver and JB welded it on. Cut slots in the adj screws. The tube keeps the driver from slipping off due to vibration.
