How far do you have to go to get a professional model Husky, Dolmar, Johsred?

When I was last there a few months ago, the only thing the Woodway had was Jonsreds and not many of those. I'll take another look. Rod's has had Echoes, Dolmars, Shindaiwas, Husky at various times, didn't see any new saws when I was last there.

How far do you have to go to get a professional model Husky, Dolmar, Johsred?

I don't know what is sold in Siberia or NWT but aside from those possibilities, currently the nearest pro model Husky dealer to the west of of me is probably somewhere in Scandanvia and the nearest one to the east is also somewhere in Scandanavia. But I don't have a globe handy and geography...

How far do you have to go to get a professional model Husky, Dolmar, Johsred?

Many of the saw comparisons are interesting to me but in my location, Stihl is about the only thing available. There used to be some Dolmars, also pro model Husky, and still are Jonsreds in one outlet. The nearest saw shops for me are in Fairbanks, but for the pro models I don't think...

Tell me about this Jonsereds 520SP

520 sp I have a 520 SP that is in very good condition. Had it stashed in a remote cabin for 20 years. Just started using it again. It is a great saw. I don't know the hp but it outcuts my friends Husky 346 XP (old edition). It seems to have a better power band than the Husky and both are...

what s wrong with this 280?

my replacement is two years old and works fine It must be a weird problem. The dealer replaced mine and the replacement works fine. I would buy another 280 if I were replacing mine for any reason. The only other possibility would have been a Husky 246 NE and pro model Huskys have...

    New 520SP in the stable

The 520 SP is a great saw. I had one sitting in a remote cabin for 20 years. Brought it back to town and using it now is a pleasant reminder of the days 25 years ago when life circumstances were very different--and when I was 25 years younger! It is smooth, light, and powerful. At the time...

Awesome Friction Reducing Product - Chainsawa and Everything Else - Energy Release

It is fun to read the responses to the EnergyRelease infomational. It has been a dull morning and seeing sensible and funny responses to nonsense is refreshing. From the ad for it, it is clear that EnergyRelease is a product for suckers. But what about all those other products that are...

    Stihl 028WB chain brake retro-fit?

I have the same problem and after checking quite a bit, I don't think it is possible to retrofit the old 028 WB's that didn't come with chainbrakes. If you find a way, I'll sure be interested. I bought mine in 1980, it has low hours , looks great, and has been a wonderful saw. It now sits in a...

Why I will never buy Stihl again

For those of you who have not encountered a real idiot manager, the experience is breath taking. I have used Stihl almost exclusively over decades and so does almost everyone else in this area. The established Stihl shop is great and the small engine reapair shop nearby is also great. They know...

    Stihl Quick Chain adjust question

I've had a 280 with the quick adjust chain tensioner for 3 years and like it very much. I've had zero problems with the chain tensioner and like the convenience. The 280 is a very smooth saw.

Stihl RSC VS RSC3 Shootout..place your bets!

Understood, of course. Have you had a chance to do any timed cuts showing differences between--in order to avoid misunderstanding--any Stihl "yellow" chain and the comparable "green" chain? What I have heard is that there isn't really a big difference in performance but I don't know of any...

Stihl RSC VS RSC3 Shootout..place your bets!

Where are all the persons from earlier threads who know from experience that all safety chain is junk? Now's the time to place bets!

Stihl RSC VS RSC3 Shootout..place your bets!

I'm not sure that I understand what "humps on the ties" means for the newer safety chains. The old RM2 had humps between the cutters, but the RMC3 hump is oposite the depth gauge. It's not something that you can just grind or file away easily. I also don't see how this hump will interfere with...

Thumbs up or down on Stihl MS 180?

The 180 has been a great little saw for me. I find myself using it much more than I thought I would. It's very light and cuts a lot faster than I expected. Hard to beat the price, plus there is a good full service dealer in town.

Stihl 066 red light special too much compression

I had an 064 without compression release. Easy to start 20 years ago when I was a youth of 45, not fun now. It sure did a number on my hands, especially when trying to crank it at -20 F. I thought about putting a "D" ring on it and that would have helped. After all, hand cranking a snogo is a D...

How much slower is safety chain than full chisel?

Compare RMC to RMC3, or RSC to RSC3. Otherwise you are comparing a sports car to a pickup truck and saying the difference is the tires. Philbert I think that I understand what you are saying about the comparison, but shouldn't the difference in speed between RMC3 and RSC be even...

How much slower is safety chain than full chisel?

I agree with this but couldn't find the two type of Stihl chains that you suggest. I don't know of a full chisel safety chain in .325. I did do a quick and dirty test yesterday with only a few non-timed tests. The full chisel (non safety) wss brand new and the RMC3 was used but freshly...

How much slower is safety chain than full chisel?

I know that this was discussed on an earlier thread but I was surprised at how little data there seems to be on the cutting speed of modern safety chain (e.g. Stihl) versus chisel chain.. I plan to do my own tests when it warms up a little more (-34 F last night) but somewhere someone must...

What is the real speed penalty with "safety" chain?

I cut firewood for home use and do general stuff like brushing, trail cutting, etc. Used full chisel in the "old" days because that's what was around at the time. Now I use safety chain on newer saws. It seems fine to me and I don't know quantitatively how much speed difference there is and...

Thinking of buying new Stihl 280

I suggest just getting a nice new 270, 2 spare chains, and start cutting. I've got a 280 and like it. I wanted decomp(for cold weather and old shoulders), but most people don't even want it. A serious firewood cutter friend has used his 270 for a couple of years and really likes it. it's hard to...
