Have you tried using a tire marking pencil? Looks kind of like a big crayon. I use one on the wheel about every 5 teeth. It helps keep the wheel cool.

I always get them mixed up which is better, but your valve or controller on your splitter will tell you which one it prefers. And on some it does make a difference.

I'm not a master at filling, but I get by. I am not to far from you. If you have some time during the day, we could get together and I think I could at least get you going on the right track. PM me if you are interested.

One thing I didn't see mentioned. I would not run your old chains on your new bar. If the bottom of the rivets are worn uneven, it may ware the bar down uneven also.

I have an outside wood furnace. When I put in my progamable thermostats I bet I saved 2 cords of wood the next year. With that being said, I have baseboard radiators for the main part of the house. When we added on I put in floor heat in the addition. The guy who sold me the furnace put the...
Thanks for all of your responses. I generally split with a wedge and sledge. I think I will get one. If I have to split a big round with a wedge once then use the Fiskar I would be time ahead.
One last question. How green is the wood you are splitting? I usually don't split when it is...
I was just out there this summer. Indescribable blue water, awesome site. We were there in June and we could not drive around the lake because of snow.

And the damper sticking can be a problem also, so keep...
If is was easy to split, it was not shagbark. It is real stringy and you usually have to use an axe to get it apart once it is split. It sounds like what we call mockernut around here. Shagbark nuts have a thin husk and a thick shell, mockernut has a think husk and thin shell.

What I am curious about is, of the people with indoor stoves, how many have a normal furnace as a back up and does it kick on sometimes. I'm not trying to start anything, but the two people that I personally know that have had wood stoves also had a furnace that would start up over nite or when...
Like I said before, I have a very good set up to cut wood. Most of it is done by myself, I would say 80-90 percent of it is by myself. Now I don't consider myself some kind of huge workhorse, I'm actually kind of lazy sometimes. But I don't find it very hard to get all of my wood cut. I'm...
