    Chainsaw file choices

I've been using Pferd round files for years, I like them. A few months ago I needed a raker file and ordered "Archer 6" Chainsaw Flat Files 12-Pack" from Amazon. I'm impressed, they are more aggressive than the Orgeon raker files I have been using.

    RIP Gypo Logger {John Lambert}

I haven't been on here much lately but I remember GypoLogger from back in the day. Always looked forward to his posts. He will be missed!

Is there a saw you never want to see again?

My first saw, Homelite 150. No antivibe. At least partly responsible nerve damage in my fingers. Despite that it got me hooked on chainsaws for a lifetime, so can't hate it too much.

How precise is your fuel mix?

My ratio-rite has a line for 44:1, that's what I use. A little more oil than 50:1. Perfect. I don't spent a lot of time measuring so I figure this will cover my lack of accuracy. Brad

    Best gloves for longevity?

To make my gloves last I just wrap the fingers that have worn through with friction tape. Dok

    I have to fess up.

I'm amazed how much it can do at 3#. Great design only goes so far and physics takes over. In other words, I use the Fiskars, 8# and 13# mauls where appropriate. Dok

    mystery

We had a similar problem with this house. After taking out the carpet and pad upstairs we found patches on particle board underlayment that stank. One of the previous owners kids were peeing in the corners. No stains on the carpet, so that was replaced later. We put down new particle board and...

    Everybody ready for winter?

I'm good for this year but I have nothing for next year. Looks like I'll be cutting through Dec. Last year we had a water leak in the upstairs bathroom so I spent my weekends working on sheetrock and bathroom remodel instead of cutting. But that's why we plan ahead right? Dok

    Best General Boots for Woods?

I have a year on Labonville's chainsaw boots. Labonville chainsaw boots I wear them for work, hunting and wood cutting. They have held up well and are very comfortable. Dok

    Screwed up new saw...help please

It sounds like half the cut went well but when the bar was buried he might have inadvertently hit the chain brake. When you say you took the old chain off and tried to loosen it up, do you mean the links are bound up when the chain is off the saw? Dok

    Woodstove Recommendations?

Something to look into that I haven't seen mentioned is clearances and how big the hearth has to be. Some larger stoves require 24" clearances behind the stove and typically 16" in front. Smaller stoves with heat shields can be as close as 6" to the back wall. That makes a big difference in the...

    Thinning the Herd (MS361,460,660)?

Help a fellow CAD addict out will you? I'm having trouble grasping the concept of "too many saws" and a need the "thin the herd". Dok

    new husky 350 rebuild,bad boot ??

Excellent timing! I used my 350 last weekend and it wouldn't idle down and was running too high an rpm. It wouldn't tune normally either- typical air leak. I shut it down and had to brush and limb the oak with the 660. ugh! Anyway, I'll check the boot and install a metal clamp regardless. Thanks...

Quadra Fire / Cumberland Gap ?

I love our Cumberland Gap. It is our only source of heat in our 2000sf house. We almost bought a larger stove but I'm glad we didn't - it is plenty of stove for our needs. Dok

    Let's talk chainsaw chaps

I'm on my second pair of Labonville's. The first pair lasted two seasons and I replaced them after I spilled oil on them. They were pretty beat anyway. This time I bought the wrap arounds and they are much easier to wear in the brush. No more snagging, I love them. Any name brand pair of...
