Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

Case in point, I had an 810 Solo. ( Or maybe it was a 790. It was the largest p+c they could put in that maincase). It was a cutting machine. The first one I had cut great for 10 cord. Then the crank broke. Solo sent me a new saw. The 2nd one was a great cutting saw also. Flat out cut my 460...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

They become parts saws. I never worked for an outfit that provided saws for the fallers. They did supply the saws for the loggin. ( Fallers make stumps and logs. Loggers move logs ) From everything I've seen . The riggin crews and sortin yard buckers were Much harder on saws than the fallers...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

I have no idea. It doesn't only depend on only the engine internals. By and large , every single part of a chainsaw is responsible for it's success or failure. With a small saw like a 6100, alot depends on what length bar you will be running on it. What chain, how the chain will be maintained...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

Around 1200 hours trigger time in an 8 month season . 6 1/2 hours a day. 6 days a week . Skilled work, this butt log was sold for more than $3,000. At the sorting yard. Where it was bought, scaled , bundled and dumped in the bay . To be towed out to the ship and loaded onboard. I had 1 butt log...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

They can say what they want. But a saw will not last that long unless all it does is sit on a shelf in the shop. I've been making a living with chainsaws mostly since 1973. As far as full time professional production falling and bucking or Pre Commercial Tree Thinning. With a saw that is 100%...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

Speaking of stainless mufflers. The 394, 395 could have benifited from a sturdier muffler. Out of 5 different 394s that I had and busheled with I had 3 mufflers go to pieces on me. Also, there is a big difference between the 390 and the 395. The 390 is like the 288. The 395 is just a little...

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

In the PacNW, BC and Southeast Alaska. Timber Fallers work full time falling and bucking. It's what they do. I don't know what the loggers do. Don't care. Pro Fallers work generally 6 to 7 hours a day trigger time. Day in day out.

Longevity of modern 90cc class saws

24 months ain't happening ! If a saw makes it thru an 8 month season of falling timber, it is ancient ! 6 1/2 hours a day , 5 or 6 days a week. 2 1/2 gallons of saw gas a day. I've never had one make it past 6 months. Either brand. And I've had Lots of both. I absolutely expect 3 months...

    Husqvarna 592XP: Real world feedback

Try cuttin timber with with a 288 Husky when they first came out. Before they put the magic Blue button on there. Try starting my 3120 without the decomp valve . Or a modified 084 ! The 2100s and 2101s I cut timber with, a guy just had to suffer thru. But as soon as the 394s came out , I...

    Husqvarna 572 XPG vs Stihl MS462CM W vs Stihl MS500i W

If you let the saw do the cutting , with a good chain and bar. The 4 cube saw cut just fine. I've fell timber up to 96" across the stump with my madsen modified 044 Stihl with a 34" Sugi Hara bar and chisel ground full ship 3/8 chisel chain. It did Great. No it didn't cut as fast as a bigger...

Aftermarket full wrap handle bar for 660 Stihl

The new bar, chain and an 8 tooth sprocket cost $197.50 . 2 dollars Fifty cent less than the entire rest of the saw 😆

Aftermarket full wrap handle bar for 660 Stihl

Okay. I just sent him an email also. This is my 660😆 It started out as a half wrap with no dogs. A good friend that I cut with in Southeast Alaska. Lives in the Middle Tanana now. Like I do. He was an 066/660 nut. They were the smallest saw he didn't destroy 🙄😬 He did have a carcass that...

Aftermarket full wrap handle bar for 660 Stihl

YUP. That's the one! THANK YOU ? This is one of my 460s with the smaller diameter tubing. These Weber Custom handlebars are The best for cutting with big insulated gloves or mitts on. As a plus , like the Pro Safety it is a great chain catcher.

Aftermarket full wrap handle bar for 660 Stihl

There used to be a guy in Montana, iirc that made a really nice full wrap. Yes the Pro Safety is a good handlebar.I had one On an 064 I had . It was Skookum. But was closer to the top cover for wearing mitts. It was doable . I'm trying to find those other ones or find out if the still make...
